Isn’t he conducting a survey? If he based an entire paper on responses here, I’d see your point, but for the purposes of general information gathering (provided the data is acknowledged as self-reported) - “just testing the waters”, as he puts it - I really don’t see the problem, nor that he is guilty of “put[ting] more faith in anonymous reports…than formal scientific research”.
