Hey,
I recently got a hometrainer and into cycling.
Really enjoy it, and I’m pretty interested in finding out how fast I can go along some real-world route.
I thus wanted to ask, are there any good apps which I can connect to my hometrainer, insert a gpx file and virtually drive along the route?
While searching, since I am a software developer, I actually wrote a prototype for my own needs doing exactly above - very simple UI and no fancy extras, but I think for me it would be useful - re-iterating my question, are there anyways already some great apps out there for this? Would anyone be interested that I share my app?

You can load a GPX onto a garmin head unit and have that set the incline on a smart trainer - but you dont get the map i dont think.

Thank you! For the tip (I’ll think about getting such a head unit), but also for the feedback. I’ll keep working on it and share once done when there is interest 
The Tacx Training™ App provides this feature, but it is not free and quite expensive if you are only interested in driving along your gpx route.
BikeTerra does this with graphics and all. It was initially free but I think they charge now. The creator is on this forum somewhere.
TrainingPeaks Virtual has just announced exactly this, coming in October. Load in a GPX and a full virtual version of the course is created for you to ride. They have debuted it in this week’s release with a selection of routes - Stelvio, Koppenberg, Sa Calobra and some looped courses too.

It seems there are some options, but not necessarily free - in particular I think ROUVY and TrainingPeaks would be a dream (have your own custom route in full VR). However, as mentioned not free and more effort to e.g. record the route in ROUVY → I’ll finish my app, it’s a fun project and realizes exactly my desires (quickly cycle a long a custom route acknowledging hills and co).
Nearly done, this is how it looks currently - once I’ll upload it I’d ping again in case anyone wants to try it
