My wife and I are supposed to close on our first home in 3 weeks (USA), and we have no idea what to do. It is mucho stressful.

Maybe if we pass on the house I can ease the pain with a new bike

Only 5k eh

I wasn’t talking about the drivetrain so much as a different price ranges for bikes.
Those other upgrades are definitely more important, but my bike is 10 years old and I am probably going to need a new one soonish.

My bike is actually 105, but when you’re racing skinny 5’7" Asian men on S-Works bikes every kilogram over the UCI weight limit feels like a pretty significant disadvantage.

If you’re thinking about the Tarmac then you might wanna hold off a bit for the new Emonda, unless of course you’re deadset in love with the Tarmac and the whole S-Works aesthetics. Of course with the coronavirus going on, new bike releases like the Emonda may also be pushed back…

I was hoping/planning on buying a venge this spring, mainly to use in triathlons. Now I doubt any of those races will go, so I’m definitely holding back (I’ve got plenty of bikes).

Also, I think I’ll have a job at the end of the summer. But my wife (she’s a Prof) might be forced to take leave. So things are a bit up in the air here in the great PNW.

What size venge would you ride? I have my 52cm pro for sale

Ooh, thanks, but I’m a 56.

Not sure if this was for me but I am getting the Tarmac comp that comes with di2 and disc. The wheels are lower end vs. the pro/s-works but I can always get new wheels later especially with the bike being $6k less than the s-works version.

I already have an emonda arl5 with 105/mechanical which i do like but mainly will be trainer duty moving forward.

So I did the right thing and told the shop owner that I had to back out of buying the Anthem…too bad it was already built up and ready to go. My wife and I both work for the casinos in Reno and we are looking at an economic disaster for the next 3-6 months, not to mention probably going to be forced to take a month off and collect unemployment if we have to hunker down for the next three weeks like the city is suggesting. Shop owner was cool with it, said he would give me the same deal after this whole nightmare passes.

If it’s going to create stress, don’t buy a new bike. If it’s not going to be too stressful and you’re a 54, I’m selling a 2020 S works Tarmac. non disc (I got it under warranty as a frameset and built it with 2019 S works parts).

either way this too shall pass. if it doesn’t we’ve got bigger problems than a few $K more or less.

  1. Neither does your frame. Orders of magnitude less important than an “aero” fit, helmet, clothes and wheels.

I’m not only shutting down all bike related expenses but, also we are budgeting the entire household (three teens and my wife and I). The wife resigned her job before all this as a teacher and I’m in the airline biz. Sounds crazy, but, limiting heat &/or a/c (desert SW USA), limiting showers, eating responsibly as in a little less, only driving if necessary, stopping memberships etc…even with government bailout there is only so long the airlines can stay afloat. I’m like 50% on the AA list and am seriously thinking (status quo) that I won’t retire as a pilot. Not worried furlough mind you. Worried that there won’t be a job to come back to. Time will tell.

I’m a glass half empty guy as I endured 15 years on furlough after 911. I think this has potential to be much worse in the US as we are just not prepared nor willing to be disciplined enough to deal with it. I’m often wrong and hope I am again here. Best to all!

Yeah 4900  but i got it with cheaper training wheels, not the one on the picture. I like to upgrade some stuff from time to time. And not all at once, like this it lasts longer.

But it seems i will be on my kicker for a while… don’t need wheels anytime soon i guess

both the Tarmac and the Emonda are the same class of bike (lightweight/stiff climber with increasingly aero properties), so if you weren’t completely sold on the Tarmac then it may be worth waiting a few months to see what the next generation Emonda has to offer

but like I said, the virus situation could be pushing new releases like the Emonda quite a few months back

Getting the Tarmac on Friday and looking forward to it. My Emonda alr5 (h2 fit, 105 & mechanical) is a nice bike for sure but looking forward to the little upgrades like ultegra di2 and disc. I realize they wont make me faster.

The Tarmac when i rode it felt like awesome and just made me want to ride it. It is odd but something about riding the that bike just felt right. Plus I think I am relatively lucky with the shipping arriving tomorrow with all of the delays I am hearing about.

The emonda will be pretty much full time trainer duty. Now I need to sell my mavic cosmic sls non disc wheels with the blade spokes. They have treated me well and pretty much bomb proof.
