AI FTP Prediction and Tapers

I’m starting to get a feel for how TR AI FTP prediction reacts to various inputs, and it makes me wonder about how it’s going to adjust for my taper weeks this year. I tend to have really bad performances on my taper week workouts, which sometimes carries through to race day, and I’m trying to figure out how to use this new AI to better prepare.

Let’s assume the FTP prediction date falls on race day. I can see a scenario where loading up your taper weeks with long, hard workouts and fatigue could place you at a higher FTP, but with less ability to perform on race day (or maybe not?). What’s the best way to use the system to optimize for extra freshness of a taper in addition to a high FTP?

As it is now, the 4 week prediction window results in an average look ahead of only two weeks for the prediction. That’s not very far. Some insight into how my training over the next few weeks impacts my fitness longer term, maybe even on race day would be great. I understand that this would have much less certainty than what’s available now, but I’d prefer to optimize for a longer term number, even so.

We have a few bug fixes around tapers in progress right now, but tapers will not include long, hard workouts. Your taper will decrease your workout duration and overall volume during the two weeks before your A event to optimize your recovery and keep you fresh, but will maintain enough intensity to sharpen you up without overdoing it. The date of your scheduled AI FTP prediction is irrelevant—whether it falls before, during, or after the taper period, the workouts won’t be made suddenly harder and won’t overload you before your event.
