So, I’m a TT rider only 10 and occasional 25 mile TT and used to have a physical coach but recently swapped back to TR. When i had a coach he used to have two different FTPs set for me. one for my road bike and one for my TT bike, there was about 20 w difference if i recall correctly. Question I have is as follows, I want to start training more in the TT position for my 2x 20 min sweet spot sessions, however in the tuck this will be essentially a threshold session and cripple me. if i turn down the intensity how does AI FTP detection cope this is?, i think it just assumes i found that workout too hard. and likely Just trying to understand how best to work this such that I can get the best training planned. I dont think theres feed back button for training in TT position
This is a long asked for feature but nothing yet.
The line from TR is “don’t worry about it - the system will cope” - I haven’t actually seen any evidence that this isnt true - but….
The way I manage this is to lower the intensity like you say and then after the ride de-select it’s inclusion to be used for Adaptive Training / TrainerRoad AI.
I plan to do this for any kind of “impacted” training - be it heat, altitude, sickness, position or anything else.
ahhh thanks very much, didn’t realise you could do that. Looks like that’s what I’ll need to do.
Trouble is, it’s not a slight drop if you are trying for a cda of 0.2 or lower. About 20% is my difference too and that’s like 240 watts on an ftp of 290.

I’ve been thinking about this and I was wondering if the best solution is to have two separate training plans, one for TT position, the other road position with two separate and appropriate FTP’s, however you cant do that because TR says you cant have two concurrent plans. Reason being that I think the AI will look at a SS session turned down by x% to account for your position, but still rated at RPE hard as you’re struggling and need thus a lower FTP or easier/shorter intervals following on from that. Likewise, you don’t want to turn a 2x 20 min SS session into a threshold session in the tuck and rate that as a full gas effort, which, being honest, would be truthful because AI would rejig your plan and I’d be broken for a week afterwards. The option of not selecting your hardest sessions each week for AI analysis sort of defeats the object of TR in my opinion. Im not sure how to fix this but I do know last year my coach had me working a lot in the tuck doing say 12 10 and 8 min SS sessions and this closed the FTP gap quite a bit and I need to keep working on this because I suspect its a bit use it or lose it.
