@Upcountry It has been clear for a while now that I can work closely with Nextie and, if needed, even facilitate the sale of their products to users. I apologize if this wasn’t known to you, as I try to keep that detail low-key.
I am constantly working with TR forum users, answering questions and helping align their goals with the right products. However, I want to emphasize that I am not trying to promote or sell anything. My intention is simply to share my personal experiences and investments in these products. I do not work in the bike industry, I only hobby in the industry.
I just wanted to say thanks for all the feedback you gave me the other day!
I can ask Nextie about your question. My gut tells me that you might want to stick with a 24-spoke option, but the new spoke could be valuable. The biggest turnoff I had with the NXTS03 was the silver titanium tips and the shallow aero profile (3mm vs. 4.5mm). The only concern is that the new carbon spoke is 3.3g per unit compared to 2.6g for the NXTS03.
There are a few NXT45AGX builds with Nextie hubs and NXTS03 spokes floating around our community. If I recall correctly, those wheelsets were in the 1350g-1370g range but are fully committed to gravel/all-road. I use my NXT45AGX build on my light XC trails almost weekly (when in warm season)!
That nextie set looks nice!!
custom build is the way to go with requirements like this. I have build a 50mm / 23mm wide (internal) set that weighs 1360 grams… (around 1000 euro) With some more budget, you can get sub 1300 very easy.
(more details here How do you feel about the current Carbon Wheel market? - #46 by nvalphen).
fancy hubs, fancy spokes and you have some room for a deeper rear rim
for the MTB I have Duke rims and hubs, also very nice road stuff!
The first QC rims came out this weekend at 450g!!! This is great news, however the QC on the hubs came out to 280g which is heavier than anticipated. The Nextie engineering team thinks there is still some meat on the rims and is going to try and QC a little lighter rim and let me know the update soon.
The only thing now is that the rims with the new carbon spoke must have holes drilled into the rim bed due to the nipples being 8mm.
