A Question to Home Gym Owners

Did some practice with 15 lb weight for single arm lifts. So, I went with 35lb for swings and 20lb for the single arm lifts. Repetitions rule here. I do believe that I will move up rapidly but my upper body is weak, especially an arm I broke several years ago. Thanks for your comment and assistance.

I think so.

Very happy with my setup so far, have worked up to bodyweight squats, although I’m having trouble getting deadlifts to the same level due to I think, my grip strength.

Is it worth getting those wraps/gloves/grips with hooks?

I don’t like the idea of lifting aids in general, particularly for those of us who don’t specialize in lifting.

If you feel your grip strength is a limiting factor in your dead lifts, concentrate on improving the grip strength and technique. Chalk is probably fine, but hooks and wraps should be overkill for a cyclist in the weight room.

Great point.

I broke a finger a while ago (mallet fracture) and used wraps once I had a pin inserted in the finger. While it allowed me to continue lifting while the finger healed, it ultimately led to reduced grip strength. Now, I was using wraps for every exercise, but the advice above is good.

For me they have been beneficial but I am also primarily lifting and solidly into or above “sprinter” levels. My limiting factor in deadlifts has been grip so to keep progressing I have to use straps. I guess it depends on your lifting objectives

For upper body and core nothing really beats a set of gymnastics rings which you can get for around 25 euro/dollar. It’s probably the most value for money piece of fitness equipment there is. For legs I have switched to single legged exercises, so you don’t need a lot of weight

Having your own home gym is actually great. you can workout whenever you want. I have actually recently added many new equipment’s in my home gym such as jammer arms, kettlebells and also bumper plates.
Got a good deal from rug rig fitness. you can give it a try if you are looking for home gym solutions.
