60 Days with no Rest Days

Earlier this summer I was growing stagnant in my training, so I decided to try something I’ve never done before. Sixty days of training with no rest days. (July 10 - September 10) My FTP was 237 at the beginning, then dropped to 231 and I finished the sixty days at 252w. Also, my Garmin VO2 max score went up from 53 to 58. My criteria was simple….no rest days, minimum of 45 minutes a day and longer rides on the weekends depending on how I felt. I learned so much about myself and my riding techniques during this time! Has anyone else done this?

Can you post the chart of hours per week over those 60 days? Were you doing TR workouts or just unstructured outside?

Hey James, I’m new to using the forum. I’ll try to post pics shortly if I can figure out how to. I do know that my weekly hours averaged between 6-8 hours.

How does your volume (hours per week) and weekly TSS in this block compare to, say, the previous 60 days?

Your endurance should be through the roof. What’s your total hours of the 60days. Good job and admirable discipline:clap::clap::clap:. Were you fatigued?

My hours prior to the 60 days straight challenge was somewhere around 4-5 hours per week. During the challenge I was doing 6.5-7ish per week. Of course my TSS pretty much doubled but I managed it well through the easy to moderate intensity rides.

Total hours for the 60 ended up being around 60 hours. My endurance did go up but not as much as other areas of my fitness. My vo2 max increased to 58 which is the best I’ve ever had and as well, my FTP went up to 252, that also is the best I’ve ever had. As far as fatigue goes, I had very little. I was shocked about that actually because I usually struggled with recovery on back to back days of riding. This was different because I was thinking consistent instead of hard/easy. I can say with confidence that the past 60 days has been better for me than all the years I’ve been riding. I’ve been riding since 2003.

I’m curious how old you are?

56

Impressive. I sort of want to do this challenge but just as an excuse to ride all the time ha :winking_face_with_tongue: I’ll keep it in mind for once I start feeling a plateau.

Seriously though, I love personal challenges like this and awesome to hear how it worked out for you!

This is impressive…. and enlightening. Thanks for sharing.

Lately I’ve been taking rest days on demand. It always ends up being 1d/week one way or another.

I’m wondering about your terminology for rest day. I see days off and easy 30 minute ones in there.

Nice! Did you do hard intervalls during this time or was it mostly endurance?

From July 10th to September 10th I had no days off. It was actually 63 days total.

At first no but as my body adjusted I did begin to sprinkle in some hard intervals.
