These might be worth considering. Multiple hub options and good specs.
Itās an Epic 8 unless price is an issue Iād get a Roval SL, otherwise I seccond the zipp recommendation as well. I have a reserve xc and have no complains but itās on the heavier side and could be 30mm instead of 28 given lots of new 2.4 tires
thanks for the links! I think Iād go for DT 240 and CX-Ray not carbon spokes. 1152g is already quite light and I donāt think the upcharge for the DT 180 is worth it to me. I will sleep on it. thanks again
@mfa81 why would you get the Roval SL because itās a Specialized bike?
and anyone saw what the post above mfa81 said and why it was flagged so fast? did I offend someone with my questions? lol
This is how my gravel wheels are built and around that weight and I beat them so hard. Nextie will send (2) spare spokes and (2) spare nipples with the wheels just as a FYI.
It looks like he joined the forum 5-mins before posting a link to a private wheel builder.
I could get the Omega with DT 180s for almost the same price I could get the Reserve XC 28 with 240s or the Berd wheels with the Talon hubs⦠Iāll have to sleep on this⦠All are enticing in their own way and cost-wise all in a similar ballpark
I guess Iām OCD with brands, but the Roval is a great wheelset, light but you are gonna be paying a premium. If I was the one buying a wheelset Today Iād most likely go with zipp hitop sw given teh price/weight and lot easier to find it under retail price
I have no experience with any of these, and especially not with Berd spokes, but I vote for Berd on principle as they are made entirely in North America and weigh a very respectable 1350g.
Iām working on ordering my MTB wheels with them but Iām torn between the Alpha and Omega rim profile also.
I need to make the decision by tomorrow.
Thatās with the i9 hubs I think. I wouldnāt want those for my bike. Iād personally go with the Talon hubs as they have the DT inners I believe. I have a set of BERD wheels on my Gravelbike and really like them so far so yes, they are enticingā¦
Is that a confirmed weight or a claimed weight? 1040g without needing to go DT180 even sounds too good to be true.
Here is there published weights for the wheels.
I know my gravel wheels came within 10g (lighter) than what the told me via email.
Keep in mind the 1040g is using carbon spokes, I have been using carbon spokes on road wheels for about 3-years now and a buddy has carbon spoke Nextie wheels on his mtb for a year (no-issues)
My theory or idea is, if the wheel takes a hard enough hit/stick to break a carbon spoke. It probably would take an aluminum out also.
We Are One is another great option with lifetime warranty.
My Revives with DT180 and Berd Spokes (Bare otherwise) are 1128g for the two of them⦠(25mm IW)
Expensive, but I managed to get a set of DT180ās from overseas recently for less than $700 for both hubs (Which is less than the retail for just the rear)
I was leaning towards the Zipps based on great reviews of the ride feel, extremely reputable brand with lifetime warranty, and a good enough weight.
But saving 300g for the same price is a lot. Now youāre giving me pause.
Let me send a message to Nextie, maybe I can convince them to give us a discount code.
Iām a charming cheeky fella when it comes to thingsā¦. And I have some contacts there.
I have a mix of BTLOS, Light-Bicycle, NEXTIE, Primwon, and Carbonal.
Iāve ordered the same 45mm deep 650b rim from both Carbonal and Primwon (but also listed by NEXTIE) and they looked identical. Light-Bicycle and BTLOSās product offerings differ, but theyāve all been solid.
Just note that they donāt comply w/ US CPSC rules on minimum rider weight, which is good for the lightweight folks, bad for the heavier folks.
Bought an XC bike last week, first ride out today.
Anyone on here in South Wales? Trails are absolutely waterlogged at the moment but managed to do some exploring anyway!
Thunder Burts and rigid post. I sense danger.
Do you know something I donāt know? I ride in an area that is mostly flat with no descents and the surface is typically just limestone, clay, and sand.
Perhaps Hunt Proven with carbon spokes? I sure like mine.
