The revenue from the sale of soccer jerseys is probably more than the entire TdF’s.
Then they fill huge stadiums with paying customers.

TL;DR is that ASO (Tour organizer) is the most powerful entity in pro cycling, and has no reason to want to change that. This pretty much kills efforts to reform how revenue from things like TV rights is shared and distributed, which leaves teams and even more so riders living hand-to-mouth.
its really a shame ASO, UCI or TDF hasnt opened up naming rights to every KOM, sprint, etc…let a big ass company sponsor a KOM and they pay the purse to the winner. could go from 1000 euro’s split between the team to 20k. Its all fun and games racing for glory, but 20K on top of that glory doesnt suck either!
