2020 XC Bike Thread

Having ridden both:

The Procaliber is a slightly more compliant/plush hardtail

(insert giant chasm of rear suspension travel)

The Epic is an efficient full suspension bike

They are not comparable in nearly any way, shape or form, even when the Epic is set to full firm. Completely different feel at the pedals at basically every point while riding.

I have to assume he had a few too many tabs open and was headed for this one…

Hey I like awards! :trophy:

@wfenwick yes I am not a morning person and somehow commented on this thread vs. the ziplock bag discussion prior to my ride this AM.

Sorry, carry on!

Anyone else try the kom cycling sealant injector? Must say im very dissapointed as mine didn’t fit a standard Stan’s valve.

Mine fits fine after removing the valve core. Just using the tubing. Curious why it doesn’t work for you.

Edit: the tubing is much smaller in diameter than a valve core so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Maybe your valve is blocked with sealant boogers?

New tape and valves. It enters the valve stem but stops at the rim

No issues with my KOM injectors either. I’m using it with the stock valve stems that come with Enve wheels.

Separately, looks like the new Procaliber is a little portly. This article is saying 1670 gm. Probably going to hang on to my Air 9 RDO for now for days I feel like getting out on a HT.

It’s always been a little heavy because of the isospeed

22.5 lb as it sits here with pedals, 2oz sealant per tire, bottle cage, and wahoo mount. Only thing left is a 80mm bike yoke dropper that’ll add about 300g.

Got out for the first time today. Took it very easy since my collarbone still has fractures. Absolutely love the vpp. Feels extremely plush while riding but feels very stiff and doesn’t Bob at all when pushing hard.

Unfortunately my lower back still hurt, I thought full sus would fix that.

Looks beautiful. The purple accents are awesome. The Bike Yoke dropper will be a solid addition!

Back pain is tricky but it looks like you have some room to slide the saddle forward a little. Sometimes even a small forward adjustment can take the pressure of the lumbar vertebrae and discs.

When I was in the UK I only rode a hardtail, where I live now in Australia I only ride full suspension, if I were to return to the UK I would probably get a hardtail again, or maybe (at most) a SuperCalibre. For UK XC and marathon racing I don’t think the courses (and mud) really justify full suspension.

Tough to bet the spec of the Giant XTC for this price, and this is CDN dollars

Thanks for that - I was just wondering if it was similar or not on small bump compliance - I guess not. Ie what is going to kill my back after 40km of single track. Might have to do some test riding.

I find Giant in general has always represented good value for money $ for $ compared to the other large brands.

On Trek’s website it is listed as 1.3kg - still heavy though.

Yep even on the anthem you get xt drivetrain and brakes, carbon wheels, stepcast, and full carbon frame for 5k. No one will beat that, that I’ve seen.

They just need a dropper friendly seatpost dia. And they could do a lot better on sales I think.

Giants always seem like the best for money but all of their bikes are so ugly. I fell no shame in saying the best looking bike is usually what I buy.

One thing that always offput me was that they don’t list any weights.

But at the same time I’ve seen a trek come in 4 lbs heavier than the weight they listed on their site, in the same size. So maybe giant is the one being the most honest.

Anybody else get immense satisfaction from a post ride bike wash?

They list the weights on the Giant Japan website
