About the Race be won on actual time if there were no time bonus it also shouldnt exist the nonsense of giving the same time to someone coming last on a group that crosses the finish line 5 or 6 seconds later than the first. Those 8 seconds Wouldnt be the same if the exact time of all arrivals was acounted for.
The problem with that is it would lead to safety issues as riders would be scrambling trying to make sure they finished right around those they need to mark. On flatter or even smaller summit finishes, it would be a potential disaster.
The benefits of the draft make scoring as a group the on,y realistic answer.
In my opinion time bonuses forces gt contenders to take some wins. I really do not like the situation when tour winner does not win any stage or wins just one.
I wasnt considering peloton finishes but all those mountain or punchy finishes were only a few arrive in small groups up front. Sometimes the first finishes 30 meters in front of the last and all got the same time.
