2020 / 2021 Olympic Cycling Racing Discussion

It seems super odd to me. I wonder if the women will race with the ramp in place (hence the need to leave it for practice).

I can’t see any other reason.

Isn’t it for blind features to know who’s coming?

I found @Anna_K 's medal ceremony on www.nbcolympics.com.

No, not at all. In fact, it’s the first time I’ve ever heard of it happening.

I get that point, but it looked like there would have been an easy ride around that was taped off in the final and set up for filming. I’d think that would be a much better option than having the crux be different in practice and race conditions.

When it rains it’s pouring …. Today Anna vd Breggen was pushed from her bike by a Japanese official while training for the TT. He didn’t know she’s a Dutch athlete and allowed to train…… Fortunately she was not injured.

Anyone notice Neff’s almost Disaster on lap one? She almost went OTB on the MVDP drop because PFP was in her way for her preferred line. She landed very front heavy but her skills saved her.

It looked like she was going to try to pass. Yeah, she almost ate it. How come the woment get the ramp back?

The ramp and a few other lines were opened up because of the rain

That’s the only reason I question the course design. Rain isn’t unexpected in the area so you’d think everything would be designed to be good for men and women rain or shine.

Recorded the Women’s XCO race. Cued things up this morning. First thing I hear “Joining the women’s cross country mountain bike race in progress. We’re a half-hour in at lap 2 of 5…”

That’s some sexist BS right there.

Just bad live coverage of MTB all around. Yesterday I watched my recorded (from MSNBC) version of men’s XCO and they skipped minutes 20-40, missing Pidcock’s attack entirely.

Watching NBC Sports replays instead now, and it’s better (full replay at least, although I can’t stand the ads). GCN+ with VPN seems like the way to go though.

The men’s race had a good 50 minutes of it cut out as well from what I got to see. They went to commercial at 21 minutes and jumped back with 50+ minutes in the race. The coverage has been terrible.

https://stream.nbcolympics.com/ Seems to have everything that is on the NBC Sports App but didn’t give me any commercials. It’s been the best option I’ve used.

NBC has just really botched their Olympic presentation. They have 4/5 linear networks they are putting content on, the NBC app, NBC Sports App, Peacock app, and the NBC Olympics website. Each has a different presentation of the videos and causes confusion with what is live and replayed events. Then they keep putting shortened replays on the tv networks in between the full replays and highlights shows.

What is mind-boggling to me is they don’t seem to want Peacock to succeed. They should have committed to their linear networks and then pushed all online viewing of highlights and full event replays to Peacock with Premium or Authentication.

…aaaand they just cut away for good with Jolanda a half lap left from the finish. :sob:

Awesome tip, thanks!

Even better, the commentating isn’t Roll & Whatsisname. (I never thought I’d pine for Bart Brentjens & Rob Warner, )

Heresy! The best commentating duo in cycling!

I had sworn off that page because I don’t have a cable TV provider (internet only in this house). Just realized that you can authenticate with Youtube TV so that changes everything. Thanks!
