100km audax, aero rim or adventure bike?

Have entered [this](Devon Dinger 100 Event Details| Audax UK - The Long Distance Cyclists’ Association Devon Dinger 100 Event Details| Audax UK - The Long Distance Cyclists' Association) event in a month or so. I’m weighing up what to ride.

Since my mum passed I’ve not taken the rim brakes aero bike out over 60km and have also messed about with longer stem and deeper wheels. It is however, bloody fast when I get going.

My adventure rig runs 40mm wide grippy tyres on shallow rims with a max 40*11 top gear. This is comfy, has good bags to remove stops in the hot August weather - I sweat lots.

I’ve done pretty close to the route a couple of times this year in just under 6 [hours](Check out my ride on Strava: Oakhaptom and pizza with Andy | Strava) on the adventure bike with a normalised power of 133w (0.6if) so regardless of bike I’m not worried about time limits. Throwing it out for discussion, I think I know what I’ll ride but what would you ride?

Personally I wouldn’t ride rim brakes in Devon, so easy choice for me! You could maybe swap the tyres for 32 road tyres, or just enjoy the day in comfort :+1:

I ride a lot of audax, I’ve gone from a lightweight carbon ‘racing’ bike with rim brakes and 25mm tyres to my current steel framed bike with disc brakes and 35mm tubeless tyres. Definitely a bit slower, but much more comfy and copes with the terrible roads we have in the North (don’t imagine Devon is much better) far better than my old lightweight bike did.

Audax is all about exploring and having a good time whilst challenging yourself, time/speed aren’t really the vibe.
