Your best bib short recommendations - 2018-2022ish

I have a set of both Competizione and Aero race. My legs are a bit more muscular than most so they are a really tight fit around the thighs and hips, and they don’t move at all during rides. The padding is firm and not overly large.

Do people have any recommendations for people with skinny waist/hips but relatively long legs? Castelli in some models suit, but in others are too short in the leg. Most bibs I’ve tried bunch around the hip/nether region area to get a good fit lengthwise and tight around my legs.

Bought Castelli, as I thought they should be half decent. Turns out 2 months riding and worn a hole through the left thigh. Bit surprised. I also find they are quite short for me I’m 195cm and have XXL shorts and they are half way up the thigh.

Keen to get recommendation on longer cut shorts for a taller rider please.

Thanks everyone.

These are a bit longer in the legs. For fall, Casettli makes the Omloop

Maybe I’m late to the party, but I strongly suggest AGU aero bibshort premium. I got them 2 months ago, and am totally stoked. I have used a ~100 euro bibshort from AGU before, but this is next level.

  • The fabric wraps around the leg tight and smooth, giving a nice feeling of compression, but pedals so smooth. The material has a great feel.
  • The black chamois is very comfortable, gives good support on those 5+ hour rides.
  • This is the fabric/chamois/fit as used in the aero suit of Jumbo-Visma. It is telling that one of the best pro teams use this gear.
  • From direct experience I can say their customer support is excellent.
  • At 183cm and 71kg, the M size fits perfectly.
  • I’m not sure what the US situation is for buying these though.

FWIW, I have found great comfort with the Endura Xtract Bib Short II for trainer rides. Padding is good for 1.5-3+ hours on the trainer.

They’re also cheap. 45 pounds per pair. Can get 3 of these for the price of some others. Highly recommended

Lately I’ve been impressed with gear by La Passione. I’m rocking the Minimal and lightweight bibs and they work great in Florida Heat (100+) for 4+ hrs.

I keep going back for their bibs. I’m a fan of their PSN range. At 5’10 the leg length is perfect for me.

I got a pair of their prestige bibs in the sale to test them. I like them a lot and am comfortable using them on 3-4 hour rides. A little snug but I went with my usual size and I’ve been ok, except occasionally having to adjust myself during a ride.

Has anyone used Black Sheep bibs? I saw some on sale and they looked pretty long. Since I have long femurs, it seems like they could be good.

I bought a pair of the new Castelli Primo Black bibs in July. They lasted three rides before the piping pulled away from the webbing on the back. I expect better quality from a $260 bib. Sticking with Assos, well at least until they let me down.

Received Pactimo 12h bibs bought on sale. And it was a mistake, because now I know I have to buy second pair in the short future.

Bibs are perfect for me - snuggle, with enough compression to feel good, chamois is pretty dense and I really like a little tactile feel from honeycomb texture. During 3h ride on the trainer they were perfect - now I have 4 pair of bibs and only 1 I want to use. The normal price is pretty steep but on sale this become bearable. As the bibs I can highly recommend them, as many people in the topic do.

I’m looking at these now. My body size is so annoying…

Very slim, but also tall (189cm). For snug fit purposes I go size M in Assos and put up with the slightly short leg. I’m size XL in Castelli bibs, which fit great. But I really want to try something new in case I’m missing out! Any anecdotal fit comparisons out there?

I am 188 cm, very slim (70kg at the moment) but with wide hips and no chest. I have bought M and they are perfect.

Oof - super slim! I’ve got some off season timber (could be muscle). I gained 1 or 2kg since starting weights, despite the promise of no weight gain from low rep high weight.

I read some other comments that pointed me to Pactimo size M too. The actual tape measurement sizing does seem right for me, but always good to hear from people who have actually tried them as well.

I’m going size M with long leg. A 5 hour indoor workout in 3 weeks time should be a good test!

Yes. I am a typical T-rex body type. The only purpose of my core and arms is to have something that my head is attached to  The M size with long legs was my exact choice in terms of sizing.

My personal preference is www.endless.cc bibs for everything but the coldest of conditions. What I like is that they have a high, compressive waist and wide straps that go over the chest in stead of “around” the chest. This is perfect for guys like me who are challenged with a little extra body fat and want to counteract the gut/moob situation a little

I have used mine on epic 9+hrs wet gravel rides in Iceland without any issues.

I can highly recommend JONA II from Futurum.cc. Same sizing as Assos and DHB, the seat pad is even better than Assos for me. I believe it is a bit firmer and works better on a trainer.

They have a challenge running on Strava where you can get 20€ off.

The Eliel El Capitan bib has been the best bibshort I’ve tried by far. Nice compression fit with a wider mid section on the chamois suits me perfect. I enjoyed castellis high end chamois but just didn’t last. Assos overall cut wasn’t comfortable for me.

Does anyone have recommendations on brands of bib shorts with chamois/pad placed further forward?

I had to get rid of the last two bibs I purchased because the chamois was too far back when I’m in my riding position (on the hoods, drops, or top of the bars). This results in my sit bones being pretty much completely off the chamois. These bibs were the Le Col Hors Categorie Heritage and Castelli Entrata.

So far, only Velocio and Twin Six (made by Voler I believe) bibs fit the criteria above and work well. As far as I know, it’s not fit related since I’ve gotten a professional fitting. Size-wise, the bibs I didn’t keep felt great everywhere else except for the chamois placement.

I’ll likely pick up another pair of Velocios, but would like to explore other brands.
