I like too Rapha. It can withstand a lot and has lived with me for a long time
Interesting - what is their chamois like? Poked around the website for a bit, but couldn’t find that info.
I don’t know how to explain it because my english is not very well. But is medium thick, and strong. I am very complicated with my ass when a ride is more than 3 hours, and this culotte is very good for 5 hours ride.
I have a Mavic high quality, that cost me double price and is a little less confortable.
The feeling you have once you wear it is a very nice compression.
I am sure if you try it, you will head to buy another one…
Cool, I’ll try them out at some point.
God & Famous has been a solid solid find. Very impressed with bibs. More with jersey material, fit and construction but, the bibs are impressive too.
I picked up a pair of Gore C5 bib shorts on Amazon Prime day for circa £55, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are discounted again on Black Friday. I’m very happy with what I got for the money ![]()
I bought those shorts last year from Backcountry for the same price. Typically I love gore wear but the c5 bib shorts had the weirdest fit. It was really saggy in the butt and snug in the legs. Ended up getting terrible saddle sores from because they’d always move.
They are a good fit for me and I like it but I guess we are all different ![]()
Finally managed to snag a pair of Assos Equipe Evo and a pair of Mille GT. Been riding mostly indoors, except last weekend when I put 50k circling Manhattan. Have to say, Assos are worth the investment. Have had no sores, chaffing, or any other issues that have plagued me this year.
This is the first season when I bought bibs. Used to ride Castelli, Garneau and Sugoi shorts well past their sell by date. With the pandemic I started riding a lot more - partly because I had time (furloughed), partly to get away from this whole fucking shitty year and not fall into a depression. Anyways, I upped my mileage significantly and my butt was starting to hurt. So I bought a pair LeCol Pro Bib Shorts after learning of that brand on Strava. Initially they seemed great, but in hindsight I don’t recommend - the chamois is worthless and after 3-4 hrs of riding it’s like you’re sitting on a brick. Back to square one, I spent hours researching and decided to try Pactimo. Picked up a pair of Apex Liner for fairly cheap just to used on the trainer - and then got a pair of Summit Strikes (very good), a pair of Raptors (returned them, I liked the strikes better) and then finally the Assos Equipe and Mille. I feel like Assos make the best stuff and if you’re trying to protect the family jewels it’s worth the investment. Pactimo also have been excellent, especially if you get them discounted (which I thankfully did). Don’t recommend Le Col at all - their shirts are OK but the bibs pheww.
What Do you prefer? The assos or the castelli?
I have assos Shorts and they are really Good, but i Like castelli and May give it a try…
Greets from Austria!
Try everything dude, fit is so personal. I prefer the fit and the aesthetics of Assos, but that’s just my opinion
Giordana makes my favorite bibs, scatto pro, Castelli is close. Maloja is also really good. Can wear those all day in comfort. Purchased some oakley jawbreakers recently and they irritate around the coufs after a while. The right seat is also important on long rides.
How long do you expect to get out of a pair of bibs? A year or 2? I’m just curious if 1 yr is the expected time if s.o. puts in about 12-15hrs/wk.
Just got some Assos GT Mille…wow, it’s another level of comfort.
Depends on a few things.
If you only have one pair of bibs and are training that much, then yes a year seems reasonable and I can’t imagine a way to keep things sanitary.
Also depends on the quality of the bibs. I’ve had some cheaper pairs wear out in a 2 years of regular wear in my rotation of approximately 5 pairs of bibs.
Definitely should be more than a year though as long as you aren’t putting them in the dryer or anything like that.
Ok. Thx. I have about 6 pairs of bib that I rotate. I was just curious how long most people expect to get out of their bibs. Most of them are Verge and I’m happy w them.
I’m partial to Assos but i’m planning on trying some Santini’s as well
I’m thinking of picking up some bib shorts with pockets, Rapha Cargo, Nukeproof Blackline Storage etc type of thing. Are there any brands that make some with colour accents? I’m loathe to wear all black these days after seeing so many accidents.
Bibs I currently have and when I bought them:
- Decathlon mid-range (Summer 2019)
- Castelli Free Aero Race 4 (summer 2019)
- dhb Aeron (Fall 2019)
- Assos Equipe S7 Evo (March 2020)
- Assos S9 (July 2020)
They all get worn once a week. My favorite by an absolute mile are the Assos S7. I’ve worn them on a 9 hour ride in the Alps, butt was fine at the end. The leg grippers are awesome, they don’t slide, but it’s an absolute breeze to pull them over knee warmers in one go. I like the Kookoo nest or whatever it’s called, there’s actually room for your junk, not like the other brands that apparently get designed on Ken dolls. I always save both Assos for the longest or hardest rides in the week. The material of the Decathlon and dhb chamois will give me a sore spot on the right sitbone, the material is almost a little abrasive. The Castelli and the Assos chamois are very easy on the skin. The Assos both still look brand new.
I wouldn’t expect cars to see color on shorts. Add that color to your shoes or socks. Something that rotates will catch their eye much faster than the small part of your bibs that is visible.
