Yates comment about detraining during the Giro

Ha, no worries.

During last year’s Giro one of my workmates, who isn’t into cycling, texted me excitedly on my way home to tell me how amazing Froome’s win was…

I wasn’t happy.

Mike

I hope I’m not spoiling anything by saying Froome didn’t win today.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

We can make use of the handy “Blur Spoiler” functionality:

Looking forward to some hot Nibali action today

How do you do that? I don’t see the button for it.

Thanks

FTFY

Much prefer riders to say what they feel rather than the boring answers they usually give. They are akin to robots. “Who do you think will win?”, they all think they are going to win but always say "Oh, there are a number of riders who are very strong. It’s too early to say. We’ll see what happens when we get to the mountains. We’ll see when we get to the TT…I think rival A is super strong and B is looking very good…blah blah blah ". Just come out and say it “Me!, and all my rivals should be sh**ing themselves!”. Love his honesty and his banter! Can’t fault it. So what if he can’t back it up, at least he said what he felt at the time. Respect.

Cracker of a stage today. Hope Roglic didn’t hurt himself too badly.

This Giro had a slow start, but it’s certainly getting interesting now.

The best analysis I’ve found is on Lance’s podcast, The Move. Johan Bruyneel has great insight into the tactics the various teams are using and planning. Really insightful.

I’d love if these guys did a 45 min video analysis of each stage. Something like the GCN analysis videos on steroids. But of course with their history, that’s probably not likely!

Great racing this past weekend for sure.

I’m just gonna say again it’s a big ask for yellow lotto to win this race. Roglic is a powerhouse and there is actually a lot of talent on that team…but it just needs to season for a couple more years. Right now, that time trial can’t come fast enough.

Moviestar is obviously on the come.

I wish I had opened a bike store in Ecuador this January.

Nibali always brings something interesting to the race.

And finally, if I was watching the race and saw my GC leader hugging a guard rail as the camera came around the corner…well, I’d have to stop the car and change my pants, too. Although I guess that’s not the exact order of those events.

Roglic was unlucky with his mechanical, and for some reason his support car decided it was a good time for a pee break, meaning he couldn’t get his replacement bike.

I don’t know how much time the mechanical cost him, but without that, and with a team car that did it’s job and got him the right bike, possible he would not have lost any time to Nibali and Carapaz.

Or, if Roglic had not crashed into a guardrail on the descent…

But either way I salute Roglic for limiting the damage to only ~ 40 seconds. Roglic still has a minute on Nibs and the deficit to Carapaz is small enough to time trial away. The race is on it’s edge, though, and the Mortirolo looms large today! Moviestar are probably feeling pretty good about their chances.

Personally, I’m looking forward to the attacks! Yates is going to be aggressive, for sure. Don’t know that he has a chance at the stage/GC but I’m also enjoying watching JoeDo ride out of his skull.
