XC Race Tire Thread

Do you think peyote better rolling speed won’t pay off the reduced traction compared to mezcal? I’m running thunder burt rear and despite being a bit sketchy at times I’m liking it so far, but haven’t tried racing ralph so can’t compare

I think it is classed as a Rear specific Tyre because it is fast rolling compared to the Ray so I guess that is why the ran them. I have trieda Ralph Front and a Burt Rear and it was good.

I think they didn’t run Racing Ray because it’s a bad tire (.)
I ran them, fell off the bike more than ever so because of that and other factors I did not like them at all.

I have xc m front xc rc rear raced this set up on a 6 stage race in spain felt like i had all the grip i wanted could push on the technical descents but still had a low rolling resistance.

I will use 2x rc team for upcoming xc races, i just like to experiment with different combos

This is what I was wanting to hear!!

Kind of reminds me of the Ground Control… my favorite tire out here!

BRR’s Kenda Rush test is out. Mediocre results. Funny, my own real life rolling resistance tests proved that the Rush 2.4 SCT are a tiny bit faster than BRR’s number 3 fastest MTB tyre ever, the RaceKing Black Chili Protection 2.2.
This is the final proof to me that BRR drum testing can not be completely translated to real world results.

This is representative of what I was talking about above that the tire may test slower on the drum (because it seems like all else equal, a wider tire will more often test slower on the drum) but not actually in real life. Yes the drum tests are indicative of a tires overall efficiency but once you include external factors that have no impact in a drum test, you could likely see some reversal of results.

Aaaand out of stock (2.4 anyway).

I was hoping they’d be a little faster. Not sure how close this is in construction to the booster pro but it tested a little slower than Thunder Burt for me…could def be in that 5 watt range.

Glad we did it! What’s our next tire??

Looking around and can’t seem to find any 2.4 Pirelli XC/RC anywhere.
Is this common?

How do you test rolling resistance?

I think I’d vote for the Wolfpack Speed 29 x 2.25 - It’s getting ready to fall off the list and reset at zero, but if we wait until that happens and add it back on the 1st it gives the maximum amount of time to get it tested, even though it’d be fall before we saw the review.

Other options: Aspen Team Spec and ST are both on there. Peyote is on there.

At the same time, I may have to do what @JoeK1ng has been doing and start doing some of my own rolling tests. I’m a big fan of the Race King, but some of the BRR tests do seem to conflict with testing others have done.

Of the new tires that came out, the new vittorias have me interested. I’m a fan of the old ones, and both peyote and mezcal look good to me. While the aspen ST is interesting, it’s tread is so light that I’ll bet it wears down even faster than an aspen

I’ll vote for the group concensus. I did order a Peyote and a Mezcal XC to try from Westernbikeworks.com and am very curious to see how the Peyote rides. To me it looks like a really interesting option for days on double track and gravel roads on the XC bike and could go head to head with the ThunderBurt.

Looking at the Kenda Rush 2.4 review, it still like a decent XC tire option, rolling a little faster than an Aspen MaxxSpeed. When I used them for a while last year I did like how they rode and traction was good on the trails I was hitting including some rocky and rooted up mid-west single track. However the sidewalls appear to be the weak spot. I flatted coming down Columbine in Leadville during a training ride last year on the Rush’s and it was a bad hole in the sidewall that I couldn’t plug and ended up having to put a tube in. I was running an insert at the time. The BRR testing at least validates my own experience
