Wolfpack (founder Wolfgang has developed Black Chili, Addix…) just released their new „Superspeed“. The previous tires focused more on grip but these claim an updated compound with lower RR.
bet the Trinotal Race Grip will be just as little bit slower then the Rapid, just like the Dubnital Race Grip vs Rapid. With the same conclusion that they cannot measure wet grip performance improvement on mtb tires with drum, due to the knobs
The Trail Rapid vs Race Rapid will be good to see (as its almost sure win this month)
I think you’re probably right. Of the ones that haven’t been tested, I’m most interested in the Dubnital Trail Rapid vs Race Rapid comparison personally, but I am interested in seeing more of the Trinotal options tested, even if the results end up being what I expect.
I found the Trinotal to have less grip than the Dubnital, is that crazy? I wanted to run Dub rear, Tri front combo, but wasn’t impressed. Both in trail grip compound.
On the right conditions I can see it. Dub is pretty grippy for the tread but once it gets looser it does feel like it will wash out more. I switched to the trin front and i’m much more confident in it.
Interesting video here. I’ve never ridden on Enduro or DH tires. I’m not really too keen on burly tires as my daily rider. More evidence pointing to me needing a new bike dedicated to gnarlier trail riding
I run Wolfpack tires and ran the regular Speed in 2.25“ on the rear this summer and it easily burps under my weight 90kg. Fixed this by going to 2.4“ so going to wait for the big brother of the Superspeed. Wolfgang needs to get these tires to someone like jkarrasch ASAP. They are affordable, lightweight and well made without flashy logos - I like them!
N=1 for what it’s worth: I had a pair of Dubnital 2.4s in the Trail casing/Grip compound mounted up for Little Sugar this year, but sliced a rear sidewall on the Ledges during a pre-ride. Unable to seal it with Dynaplugs I put in a tube and limped back, then switched to Maxxis Forekaster 2.4 front and Rekon Race 2.3 rear for the race itself with no further tire issues. Certainly not a swift option…
Faster than that limp home from the ledges. It’s why I ran Barzo/Mezcal in trail casing. Also not fast, but seemed to be a popular choice with the locals.
I ran the Dub 2.4 in Trail/Grip F/R and made it around the course 1.5x during pre-riding and then again the full loop on race day with no flats. Likely a bit of luck and a bit of choice at play, but at least in my case they held up well. From a traction standpoint they were all I needed.
Yes, I suspect my experience was just bad luck; I don’t even know when it happened, but just realized that my tire was losing air, then found the sidewall slash. It could probably happen to any tire on that course…
