Would Audible Narration be a good idea? I think so

Thanks Chad, that really helps

We actually have some athletes right now testing some improved accessibility VoiceOver features in an effort to help make the experience better and more accessible for vision impaired athletes. I don’t think its Chad’s voice though.

why not have a computer do it? I suggest the fred voice from simpletext from back in the day.

multi language would kill this. aren’t there accessibility native functions that could be leveraged? can TR ensure their text is accessible to these features?

This should work decently well for multiple languages right now! If you change language in the app settings, e.g. Spanish, then set VoiceOver to speak in Spanish in iOS settings, it should read anything that we have translated. For things we don’t have translated, it will auto-translate certain things like numbers, times, dates, and very common words.

To add new languages to VoiceOver, go to:
-Settings
-Accessibility
-VoiceOver
-Speech
-Add New Language.

That would be too much Vader.
I want Arnold Schwarzenegger to yell at me amd make fun of me.

I don’t mean to sidetrack this thread, but I would be satisfied if I could press a key (in Windows) to back up the text a little, in order to re-play something that I missed.

Great suggestion! That maaaay get tricky with where the rest of the text would ‘catch up’ along with the queues to start the next interval. without rewinding the workout. Will keep this in mind and pass this along to the team!

Buried in some other discussion, I made a suggestion of having the option to show instruction as more of a text message, with the active comment at the bottom, and the prior text visible above. Something as minimal as 1 active line and 2 prior (3 total lines visible all the time) would be an improvement.

Found the mention from years ago.

I would sure like to have that as an option. I’ve taken to running TR on my phone while Zwift is on my screen to reduce issues with signals dropping, etc. The text on the phone is small and out of my line-of-sight so I really don’t pay attention to it now.

I, like many others, sometimes miss the instructions as they come up on the screen especially during more intense segments. Why not have a setting for verbal instruction so that we can hear the instructions instead of having to read them? This is what a human coach would be doing instead of writing them down and showing them to you.

I moved your request under the existing one for the same topic.

I see todays release now supports screen reader. I will give that a try. Have support released a document showing how it works? I have never used screen reader before, does it read automatically or does it have to triggered?

I was just thinking about this again last night or the need for an Audible prompt for the start of written narration. On quite long intervals Chad will go away. During that time I will settle into a TT position with my head more down/fixed. However Chad’s written narration will suddenly restart after this long break and I often miss it

How about Amber popping up in the corner halfway through an interval and announcing “happy halfway”. Kinda like how ether developer of Mortal Kombat would pop up in the corner and say “Toasty” if you got a certain combo. Would be a fun Easter egg

VoiceOver (iOS) or TalkBack (Android) are both services that are built directly into the phones themselves. As long as VoiceOver is enabled on your phone (instructions here), you won’t have to do anything else to activate any of the Accessibility features inside of TrainerRoad.

As soon as VoiceOver or TalkBack is enabled, the app should automatically start using any Accessibility features we’ve built. You don’t need to toggle anything in our app, just make sure that the voice-over service is on for your mobile!

Check in your TR app settings. Part way down you should find “Instructional Text Sounds” and a “Sound Volume”. Make sure the first is on, and volume is up. If there is a longish gap in instructions (10 seconds or more?) this setting sends a beep sound as an alert that new instructions are coming.

I knew that was there and I have it turned on, but it is very subtle. I never hear it. It seems to be quieter than the countdown at the end of the interval
