This has probably been covered on the podcast but I can’t remember the answer and my searches didn’t pan out. I just ordered a power meter and have a question. Is there a benefit to using a PM for non-workout outdoor rides? Will the extra data help TR figure out my next workout with any better accuracy?
About me; I have been using TR indoors for a long time. I only use TrainNow because the calendar does not line up with my schedule.
This is not a question about doing workouts outdoors. I haven’t tried it but I think I’ll be able to figure it out. I am only wondering if the extra data will help the AI tell me what to do next.
Any power data, from workouts or free rides outside should have impact on what the AI determines as appropriate next steps for you.
Outside power data can also help push what TR thinks you are capable of. On one side, it feeds into your FTP calculations, the red/yellow light algorithm and recently TR started recommending workouts way beyond the usual increases of progression levels. One aspect to trigger such recommendations might be an outside ride where you went over your known limits.
In general, it really comes down to “the more data you feed the machine, the better its predictions and recommendations get”
