Great :camera_flash: Thanks for sharing :sunglasses:

FFS the winter came back, again. Subzero temperatures and snow at least for the weekend. :cloud_with_snow::weary:

First ride on my new GRIZL AL, was good beeing on gravel again, probably should have chosen a flat route and not one with a lot of steep climbs that have 15-20% sections, since it should have been just a easy endurance ride. But was frustrated because yesterday my VO2 session was bad did only one interval and my Favero pedals seem to have died…

The weather was horrible started raining soon after I left and temperatur dropped at the highest point to 2C and it started snowing a bit, on the way back the sun came out a bit until I rode into hail at least temperatures moved more into the 10c direction.

@greenbike Amazing Pictures, seemed to be really nice rides, I will have to go to Ticino to ride my bike at some point it is really beautiful.

Some Pics of the bike and the Weather…

On the plus side, you took your all conditions bike into all kinds of conditions! Congratulations on the new bike!

Pohick Bay and Mason Neck with J4

Z1 ride with my 13 year old to prep for a ride on the C&O Canal next month. Plus a good test of my new cockpit setup - rotated the bars forward to make the drops more comfortable, rotated the hood up to keep them in the same relative position as before, and rotated them in for more comfort. Unfortunately my tape wrapping job was $hit but it will work.

A short ride round Nevill Holt today for me. Knowing how bad I am on descents, I think I should have gave more up the hill and should have forgot about staying aero. Especially as it felt like I had more to give there, which left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. I think I was about 20m behind my minute man at the top of the hill and 4 and half minutes later he was about 250m away! At least the wheel stayed good :-/

Rode a small local(ish) event out in the Berkshires (western Massachusetts). In 2022, I had to walk a couple of the hills. Last year I got up everything with a 30T chainring and eagle cassette. This year, it was a 38T chainring (same bike/eagle cassette) but I knocked 30 mins off my time and average power was up 43W from last year :star_struck:

Pohick Bay & Mason Neck
3 x 16 SST

Wife showed up to the HSG Campout and let me get a workout in while the kids were doing activities. Managed 3 x 16 / 4 @ SST. Clear skies, low humidity, 73F, and light breeze … perfect riding weather!

No pics as I was on the clock with the wife.

Friday I kicked off my trip up to Queensland to see family, & some friends I haven’t seen in years. This is the trip I intended to do 4 years & 2 weeks ago. Well, we all know what happened then.

First stop is Melbourne, & I’m staying with a friend in the southeast. She was busy today with other things so I went out on the bike for some exploring. I was undecided between The Crucifix, series of hill climbs (which I thought I could do as a 4× tempo/sweetspot intervals set), & a tour down towards the ocean, until I reflected, being that today is Sunday the Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd would probably be full of, well, tourists. And my friend said that my second option was where she would’ve taken me if she wasn’t busy. She gave me a short list of places to check out & it sealed the deal.

Started out 17° & cloudy. Perfect for summer kit & neither chilling nor sweating like crazy. Headed towards Hastings first, quite nice there.

Then onto Flinders

Nicked another pic whilst pootling through the golf course nearby:

Between Flinders & Cape Schanck the terrain got very lumpy. Spent most of my time in my lowest gear, most of the rest of my time in one of my three highest gears or coasting, & very little time anywhere between those extremities. Amazing scenery though. No photos from there because I just wanted that bit to be over.

The clouds gave way to clear skies as I approached a lookout called London Bridge, so named because of a geographical feature visible from the lookout at low tide.

Somewhere out there, over the horizon in the direction of the middle of the photo, is my home.

Bailed on one last location because of time. I headed back, enjoyed 23km of pan-flat road by the sea (such a novelty for me; it’s unheard-of where I live), then saw the sun set over a vineyard, definitely feeling fatigue. Sightseeing tends to bore me so I’m pretty sure I enjoyed this more from a bike seat than I would’ve from a car seat.

Edit, becausse I forgot to put the vital stats in:

My mate is who was 2nd in yesterday’s TT was meeting a young mate (half my age) for an off road (gravel bike) training session. Somehow I doubted I could hold the pace (especially down technical stuff) so I agreed I’d meet them at the cafe in Fineshades. I posted I’d go by another meet. But about 0.75iles from my house I realised I’d left my cafe lock so doubled back and have to hammer it to the meet into a strong NW wind. Lol, no one was there so after taking some selfies it was on to the cafe at a more sedate pace. After the cafe though I rode with my mate and the young gun and I was right, I could hold my pace on the flat and uphill I was slightly faster (they’d been riding flat out for 2hours) but downhill on technical stuff I lost them. But it was quite fast for me for the hour and a half home.

Then it was back to the usual dilemma

Haha, yep, let the young tackers wear themselves out then join in. There’s a few guys I know who I can only keep up with the next day after they’ve done a 300km ride.

I went out running again and… I think I enjoyed it.

For perspective… 4.2 miles is easily the longest distance I’ve ever ran. I’ve never been a great runner (fastest mile was 6:38 nearly 20 years ago) but I plan on doing one trail run a week this year.

Hains Point Hämmerfest
Washington, DC

Another hammerfest. Didn’t get dropped this time, but also didn’t pull during the 26+ mph laps. If smooth is fast, then we were not fast this morning … way too many surges.

sounds fun!

It is! The course has very slight rolls to it (+/- 1%) but the group does not ride them smoothly, so from that perspective the ride has a lot of surges and then coasting - kind of like a Cat 4/5 crit. This can easily be seen in the difference between my warm up and cool down laps vs the seven hammer fests in the middle. It has a very different feel than the group rides I used to do when living in Tampa - there the group was super smooth even though there were sections we would hammer. Regardless, there are a lot of fast riders in this group, including some retirees!

Did a easy spin on the Gravel bike in the Evening/Night along the River, spotted some Beavers. Forgot to put on the shoe covers and paid for it with really cold toes at the end of the ride, should never go out without them when it is 2C, Really hoping the temps come up again next week . No pics because it was dark and wet.

Yesterday did my V02 outside went decently overcooked the first one a bit and paid in the last 2 esxpecially and couldn’t keep the cadence around 110 just didn’t work. Also was anoying that somehow the press lap, intervals in the loaded workout werent there so had to pause manually…

Yeah it was a good test for the Bike and for my Kit
