Fresh tracks this morning. Makes for slow + sometimes sketchy riding on the fat bike!
But fun and beautiful!
I joined the DCC Bun Run today, the old cafe is shut though so they’ve had to vary their route.
I’m a bit concerned my HR was a bit too high against the perceived effort ![]()
Ripped the legs off with a group ride, testing a new club, 3.5hrs at 0.81 IF - who says group rides aren’t effective training?
Doh.
Great weather/freezing fog.
6 of out on the DCC Sunday Ride today. I think we all said it was windier than expected. My time down the Knockhill descent was nearly 13mins my best was 8min (508ft of descent in 3.6miles)! Edit: Ive just looked at the KOM (KOD) 6:26 also in a storm ![]()
Its supposed to be wet and even windier the next few days so I think it’ll be my last outdoor ride for the year.
I might add a few more inside (plastic) miles to it on Tuesday but that won’t increase significantly over:
Just over an hour in the freezing mist, 3 local loops failing to stay in endurance zone, AP 180 but NP 196
A cold windy day on the bike. Wind even blew my bike over while I was taking a pic! Was a lot calmer in canyon… although limited how far I could go up due to seasonal elk closures.
Wow! You’re in Colorado, right? Which part again?
Steamboat Springs. Will be snow riding like this until March/April until the paved roads, and some gravel roads, clear up.
I’ll try make 1 or 2 trips to the desert to get some dirt rides under my belt before Moab Rocks in early April.
Did my first ever outdoor interval workout today. I’ve done probably 40-50 TR indoors but that’s it. It wasn’t a structured TR workout but one I just planned ahead of time.
Also, I had never really looked at KOM’s on Strava or understood the details of how it works. I found a popular .83 mile loop at a nearby park I was familiar with and structured my intervals based on that. Today I did 5 near all-out loops with a 5 minute slow loop between each. Looking at some comparable TR workouts, it had around 280 watts for my targets for 2 min intervals, so that was my minimum, but ultimately wanted to make sure I paced right (I only use the trainer on ERG mode, so power targets are easy).
It went perfect. Each intervals was between 2:10 and 2:15. Average power ranged from 315 to 334 watts, (seems I have more power outside, makes sense) and it also put me at 14th of 362 males for the segment. I think if I wasn’t pacing for 5, I could crack top 10. I’m also riding a gravel bike with a 52mm rear and 48mm front, so when I get a road wheel set, that may help as well. I’m 18 seconds off the KOM, which I don’t see myself flirting with for a while.
