Gravel ride #3, riding my new Checkpoint SLR 5 AXS somewhere in Alabama. It’s not fancy, but I’m enjoying it even in stock form, plus you don’t look strange carrying a bag full of snacks on a gravel bike! As much as I love my TR sessions indoors (I’m not training for anything in particular), it is nice to just get out and ride.
I agree… 50-70°F is the right temperature. Now if race organisers could please take note rather than schedule races for when it’s triple figures, that’d be mint.

About 10F cooler than on Monday. I’m still dialing in my winter clothing and got this ride just about right - leg warmers, shorts, long sleeve jersey, gillet, cap, long-fingered gloves. Shoulders were cold at the beginning, so maybe could have used a base layer, but I had the top of the gillet unzipped. Toes got cold around the 90-minute mark, so maybe also need some toe covers. Otherwise perfect!
Hiking in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with the wife on our 27th wedding anniversary! She has tricky knees, so the way down is slow, but she loves being in the mountains. We went to a concert last night, so slept in a bit, but still got started around 10am. Great way to spend the day together.
We planned holidays in Chiasso, there were no free rooms there so we went to Como. Did a bike ride from Komoot yesterday, it ended on the Muro di Sormano which was quite the climb. As it turns out the Giro di Lombardia goes right through it today. Our hotel is right on the final racing track. To my girlfriend it probably looks like I planned all this, but I had no idea.
Yesterday was the normal group ride to the pub but it started pouring when we were there so we had a 3rd pint and being a bit p1ssed I lost the 53.5 miles to the Pub (Falcon in Fotheringhay).
Today was another group ride but in the exact opposite conditions it had cleared overnight and temperatures dropped to 4deg C and suffering from chemo induced neuropathy I deliberately overdressed.
When I was cleaning the bike I decided I’d go out for a short recovery on the gravel bike before dinner. First time I’ve ridden it in a bit. I think I need to up my core strength and adjust the right shifter I might have knocked it crash earlier in the year.
Used the bike trailer for the first time this morning. Last night I put some scrap metal in my wagon to bring to work thinking I could take the GFs car for preschool drop off but she had an MRI at the same time so seemed like good excuse to finally try out the trailer. Lots of kids get dropped off in joggers, cargo ebikes, other bike trailers, and even some of the pre k kids ride balance bikes form time to time. Just confirms our decision to move where we did. Also almost have the GF sold on a cargo ebike.
Frederick MD. I wanted to go more into the woods, she wanted to get as close to DC as possible (technically where her office is but is 100% WFH). Weren’t looking in Frederick at first, slightly west since I still need to get back to WV for my business but we kept visiting and realized it was perfect for us. The cycling community is huge here didn’t realize until we got here. You can find a ride every day of the week. Don’t have a MTB again yet but I can technically ride from my house to trails (little far but doable). All 3 of the tots eventual schools are walkable from our house. Some sources claim it to be second largest city in MD, others put it like 4th? Either way having lived in Atlanta, worked in NYC and philly (her DC, London and grew up outside Pittsburgh) it doesn’t feel like we live in a city but access to stuff and being able to bike her to school is great.
