Was just in your fine Republic, visiting my mom. My sister had us working like dogs, but rewarded us with some Torchys Tacos in Fort Worth
Nice pictures. I have to say I’m now really over the weather. One thing is the rain but I could live with the unstable weather if the temperature would finally creep up a bit. I just really want to do some longer rides in just the jersey… It looks friendlier over the ascension day weekend but I’m on family vacation so no bike and it’s s needed 5 days rest anyways.
Was out on Tuesday. Constant threat of rain and temps dropped to 10 degrees in one of the valleys… The Aare carries a lot of water I hope that my parents in law don’t get their garage under water
It was supposed to be a 90 session rising to threshold for me tonight but I decided an hour better suited the time I had so I used Alternates and swapped it to Rendezvous. Then after a beautiful day I decided to take it outside.
It was just my of my training routes down to Glatton with an extension to the Sawtry roundabout to make sure I finished what was supposed to be the threshold interval on the old A1. I need to get a lbs to look at my worn dropouts which are allowing the rear disc to twist in the axle going into the frame after stopping a few times to sort that I kinda lost my mojo to push hard on such a calm relaxed night.
The TR Stats say a lot
Wow that is a long day on anybike let alone a TT bike. The boys at 4 days in Dunkirk only did 15k ITT today…
+1. Smash Burger is also up there.
In & Out is the best $$$ to taste value (they are half the price of everyone else)… but not the best burger.
Hard to beat Torchy’s. I’ve been to the original Torchy’s food truck a few times in Austin.
In the 80s in central Florida, we had Whataburger or was it What-A-Burger. It was this A frame looking place I don’t remember if it was legit Whataburger or a renegade one. There is some history between the FL and TX joints. Anyway, it was odd looking, but even today I still remember how good the burgers were. The first time I had Five Guys, it made me think about Whataburger. FYI… I like Five Guys too!!
Beautiful!
Great pic. What bike is that?
To @Morzak’s lament, the weather sucks. While it wasn’t raining today, or at least it stopped before I headed out, it was too cold. Yes, it was 50ºF / 10C, but it was a cold 50, feeling more like the upper-40s for too much of the time. While it’s nice not to have to put on sun protection or add electrolytes, I’d like some natural Vit D on these rides. Yes, I’ll take some cheese with that w(h)ine…
It’s a four-day holiday here due to Ascension Day yesterday (Thursday), so the roads are generally quiet. I had been thinking about getting to some mountain climbs, but the weather at each summit / pass was just too close to zero for my interest. My tolerance for cold diminished after spending 5hrs on a mountainside yesterday – Ascension Day – at a 3D archery tournament, an event that I failed to check the weather for and showed up wearing clothes for 50-60F. The problem was it was in the mid-30s F. Fortunately, I had my rain jacket which afforded a tiny bit of warmth.
Last year on Ascension Day, I bailed on riding then for this same tournament. The weather was quite a bit better (I’ve since – of course – upgraded my bow, just sayin’):
This leads me to what the Ascension Day ride looked like the year before, 2021, where the route was, um, blocked.
The above was an alternate route to get to the main climb, a real awesome segment in the right weather, that I enjoyed on Ascension in 2020 as part of a 90-mile 11,100’ ride:
Alas, neither yesterday nor today was like that. I rolled out at 9a and immediately turned back to change my light long-sleeve to an insulated long-sleeve. I kept my insulated gilet but for most of the ride I was regretting the choice and wished I’d either worn a merino base t or a jacket. Short bibs were fine as long as I had my gloves on. The pics don’t do the gray sky justice, but you can get a sense of the clouds hiding the mountains in the distance, which is generally where I’m going to go for countless real climbs.
There’s old stuff here, and sometimes it’s in plain sight, like this 13th-century building (Höchhus Küsnacht) that’s now the town library.
And there were distracted drives, like this bonehead who I could tell wasn’t trying to run my off but wasn’t paying attention as he looked left and drifted right.
And the nearly obligatory pic headed to Rapperswil with the gray sky.
There was some wind and I’m now wondering if my one hill climb will put me into the rain.
But before that, there was another bonehead. This guy decided to veer right to get around the car in front that stopped to turn left. I shouted at him (the white Mercedes SUV) and this still from my GoPro (mounted below my Garmin) shows his wheel already turning away from me as I’m about to hop onto the sidewalk. There was an unusually high number of close calls today.
And though there were some goat- and cowbell, my only good shot of cows for @WindWarrior is sans bells. Sorry.
Overall, it was a less than 3hr ride of 48mi – and a relatively flat 2100’ – for endurance with a climb at the “end” to give me a generally downhill shot to home.
With all due respect to the Gentleman from Texas, @Junio, generalizations make for easy strawmen. The inclusion of Fatburger attests to this point if a greasy and slimy slag can qualify here. Does Fudruckers still exist? When considering In-N-Out, I ask the kind sir, are we speaking of animal style or just a plain cheeseburger, or a 4x4 or something else? I’ll cede the point that Shake Shack, the one time I’ve approached their counter, makes a fine shake, but I’ll also concede that I have not tried their burger. Nor have I given Five Guys more than two chances to entertain my tastebuds and make up for their earlier failures. Now, on the point of shakes, a McDonald’s shake here in Switzerland and in Italy – a dessert “Frape” – makes for a very good contender and bears no relation to a McD shake in any state or territory of those United States. I’ll also concede that I haven’t had a Whataburger since a very satisfying visit to one near Ventura, CA several years before the end of the prior millennium on the way too and from a college water tournament. (Whether it was my age or deep need of calories that rated the Whataburger high is unknown at the present time.) That all said, Five Guys is an adequate replacement in the absence of In-N-Out, so a nod to you, sir.
Action shots, great burgers, and beer. Thats what I need to fire up for this weekend. And cowbell.
Sadly I had a record setter yesterday (60-min power/HR on endurance ride), and all I got is this crappy pic in the garage:
and this WKO screenshot
showing +6W week over week, at same HR and +6F warmer. Time for BYO confetti Onward and upward.
4x16 minute intervals at 104%(with the bike I’m training on now, that’s really 100%). Tailwind on the ascents and headwinds on the way back down made for long recoveries.(almost a 1:1 ratio) exceeded targets on each interval. before descending for the last interval I ditched EVERY item off the bike in a KOM attempt.
316w average and took the KOM by 18 second on a 16 minute segment!
My usual Saturday group ride down to Oundle and the cafe by a spurious route and the almost as routine back to Fotheringhay for the pub. This morning was rather fresh with a chilly northerly but the cafe courtyard was quite sheltered and quite warn so I took off the Arm Skins and Knee Skins, and by the time we got to the beer garden there was barely a cloud in the sky . After taking the skins of though, I’ve got a little burnt in the beer garden (I only had sun cream on my neck). I only had 3 pints of Moretti Shandy, however as I wanted to pop to the lbs to get them to look at my worn drop outs. I’m 99% sure I could have driven round but after the shandy’s I chose to cycle. The lbs has added some rubber o’rings to the disc wheel which might stop it from twisting in the drop outs for now. I’m just reliving the end of the Giro after that I might go out and test it :-/
Alcohol and a sunburn, two things that go together! Hope the bike is riding great.
I did go out and test the disc. It was certainly an improvement, although I didn’t stick max power through it, hopefully it will cope with that in a race. I went out and did Carter and as it was such a nice evening, I did it again. I stopped as I often do at Orton Mere on the way back and whilst my body felt the perfect temperature; now I’m back in the flat my damaged fingers feel like they got frostbite even though it never got below 15deg C
Route wise it was just one of my usual training routes. Along Oundle Road to Bullock Rd, down to Infield Rd, right to Winwick, through Hamerton to Alconbury Weston, and then back up the Old A1 to Peterborough.
60 more miles on the TT bike. Gotta get my neck acclimated to this position some how!
I did KAPUTYAT TR OUTDOOR workouts essentially a 2hr SS workout I extended for an additional 3hr 20min to get my long ride in ride went well good weather etc only negative is my Galaxy S9+ died …and wont charge …I"ll get a new phone on Monday wife freaked out as she lost the ability to track me deep into the ride…
