Where did you ride OUTSIDE today (2022)

I worked there for 1 an a half years. Best work placement I ever been.

On the very top of my list of restaurants is Jaquet, just a few streets down from Mercafo Dos Lavradores.

Now… how that hell do you cycle there!!! There is no flat land were you are. Either going up… or going down!

Kudos to you.

I’m afraid this is not going to end well…

Start of the trip…

Ha ha. 60 and strong :muscle:

First time on the road bike outdoors today. My cycling club (Zug-Zurich-Peleton (ZZP), which I rarely ride with due to scheduling etc) and others got together for a Ukraine support roll around Lake Zug. Joining was a club with maybe 10 riders on fat bikes and mountain bikes and another club (didn’t catch their name) mostly on road bikes. There were perhaps 100 riders mostly on road bikes. A lot of blue and yellow balloons attached to bikes or riders, some flags were attached to backs like race numbers, and there was some Ukraine kit (generally worn by Ukrainians). The pace was intentionally easy and all intentionally stayed in small packs with good separation to not bunch up as the roads are narrow.

It was a cloudless day and -2ºC, a bit chillier on my ride to the start but it must’ve warmed to perhaps 4ºC near the end. A warm sun was overmatched by the cold air.

The route was around the lake. The bit at the top was my approach to the ride start and return home.

The loop around the lake was pretty flat with minor inclines and a couple of bumps. My only “climbing” today was getting out of my valley to the Lake Zug area (first “climb”) and returning to my ridgeline to my valley and then up to the ridge line. The first stop was waiting for the ride start, the second to wait for a friend I accidentally dropped, and the third pause was for a mechanical (not mine, fortunately).

46 miles and only 2100’ of climbing made for a flat ride overall.

On a completely separate note, the trail maintenance here is superb. Sometimes there are double-track size trails that get a fresh layer of gravel after reconditioning the bed. Below is a no-bike path that I used to run hill repeats back when I was serious about running. I thought you all may enjoy the little tractor for the narrow path. There is a second little tractor out of the frame to the right.

A few days ago they said high pressure is comming in and it was going brighten and dry up a bit. They were 100% wrong :cloud_with_snow::cloud::fog::cloud::cloud_with_snow::cloud::fog::cloud::cloud_with_snow::cloud::fog::cloud::cloud_with_snow::wind_face::wind_face::fog::wind_face::cold_face:
I met some mates at a local village (Elton) and we headed to the Fineshade Woods. Someone said they were looking forward to getting a nice dry seat in the warm at the cafe there. Doh, we got there to see a cafe closed sign. At which point I remembered that they told me were closing temporarily and opening up a temporary pop up cafe in the grounds. So we ended up having a stand outside, at least it stopped raining and the building gave us shelter.

Lake Whelchel Trail - Gaffney, SC

Yesterday, here in Sioux Falls, SD. There’s been no snow this year but I finally got one day of good fat biking conditions:

A little undergeared cadence work tonight, on a windy and ‘warm enough for the summer kit’ evening:

I’ve been working on extending cadence range, and these 5-min efforts at 105rpm felt good (finally!).

About two weeks ago I started seeing these roosters after finishing my intervals and headed home thru what I believe is unincorporated Sac county, perhaps within the city of Sac which allows for 3 backyard chickens per yard. Not sure if these guys are jumping over the wall, or where they are from. They wouldn’t survive in our neighborhood because of the coyotes.

Rode the Ename Classic this weekend. 150 km in Flanders with some short climbs along the way. A kind of reduced Tour of Flanders. The sun was shining. Lots of riders out there. Cycling is the best!

And yes : I couldn’t have done it without TR. A year ago I was an overweight couch potato with close to zero physical condition.

Right on schedule:

I think was a pinch flat, have been experimenting with lower pressures. A couple cars stopped and one of them handed me some towels. That made easy work of cleaning up the sealant that leaked out of the tube. No signs of wires or the usual cuts.

That’s what I get for riding on county and state highways. Sigh.

Are you running a tube in a tubeless tyre with sealant? If its tubeless you’ll be able to run it without the tube and avoid snake bites (pinches) whilst lowering the pressure. I think I pinched on my commuter during the week (sods law its the only bike thats not tubeless). Although it only seemed to have fully holed on one side there is corresponding scrapes on the other side. Fortunately I was 3rd of a mile from work so I just powered up the 0.26 mile 5% hill and into the office and decided to fix it later. That might have induced the corresponding scrape but it was a good call as it was 0-1deg when I p’tured and near 10deg when I fixed it :+1:

GP5000 tube tire on a tube only hooked rim. Yes the tube had Orange Seal, and the sealant appears to have stopped a few “thinner than sewing needles” wires from flatting the tube.

Conti recommends 95-115psi, and after using Silca tire pressure calculator I had dropped it to 75psi. No cuts or wires, so I think it was a snake bite. Back up to 90 psi!!!

Here: The Forest tracks have been turned to deep ruts and mud by the forestry works. It’s ruined.

On the bright side you didn’t have to find something to prop your bike up with

This morning’s predawn roll was a quickie of 8.5mi (950’ ascent) in 48min. Here’s a vid with my new GoPro 10 (my 7 had become unreliable) mounted on a chest harness.

The video starts just before 2mi mark below, or at the dip before the short climb before the descent. The video ends just after the descent ends as I get to the river’s side. No animals were seen.

This evening – doubling up – was a bit of a repeat of this morning, except instead of turning back at the start of the “fun” climb at about mile 4.5, I did two repeats on the climb for most of Kaiser, TR outdoor ride.

The climbing is adding up, though I’m not sure I’m getting more fit. An old friend connected on Strava today, so, naturally, I looked at his profile. We have similar stats: averaging 5 rides / week for 6.5hrs a week for the last 4 weeks, 41 rides year-to-date. But he’s been on TR (he’s in snow country in the US) so he had 766 miles this year to my 530. But, I have 45k’ (actually now 47k’ with this evening’s ride) to his zero elevation gain. He’s probably still stronger than me, though.

PS
@windwarrior I roll ±67psi on my tubeless 28mm road tires on the road bike.

I’m also 65-70psi on 32c tubeless, but loving these tube only Roval Rapide CLX with 28c. Maybe I simply need to train on tubeless, and do Wed worlds on the fast wheels.

No footprints?!

The two words “pre” and “dawn” connected to a bike ride fill me with anxiety :joy::joy::joy:

On vacation in Florida with ye olde cyclocross bike, setup with Mavic open pros and Look road pedals.

30 miles in the sun, riding with my Dad. He’s still riding at 78 years old.

Not today but yesterday a nice ride on Mallorca from Palma to Cap Formentor and back.
