I also use my phone. IPhone 12. Have not had any problems. Maybe dense trees blocking the GPS signal??
I enjoyed the chaingang (pace line) tonight. It was the same route as the last couple of weeks, down from Yaxley through the Fens and back up the old A1 to the Stilton OB. I had to laugh on the way to the Yaxley meet the road goes left at signals and immediately thereâs a right turn lane besides a straight ahead lane. The car in front was turning right as was I. I positioned my self behind the right wheel of the car turning right, so it was pretty obvious I was turning right. As often happens the car ahead of me had to wait slightly blocking the road and the following twerp just about crashed into their left wing. So naturally according to the Twerp I was to blame by not indicating ![]()

Anyway, I digressed, we managed to get round to the relatively straight old A1 before it got pitch black and thereâs enough light pollution from the new A1 (M) when it isnât. It was quite a good intensity IF 0.82 for the 1.25h chaingang part and IF 0.77 for the whole 1h51m.

It was good to have my nice spinny bike back. I started to use wet wax lube at the start of the year and just kept on applying lube ontop of lube and that wasnât really a problem at the start of the year when it got washed off on every ride but as summer progressed with the chain staying dry, doh it was a recipe for disaster.
I stopped at Orton Mere on my cool down to capture what was left of the light on
It never really worked
so I put the flash on for a selfie.
Iâm officially starting base today with Traditional Base 1. Replaced the ramp test (already had a recent AI FTP) with Brasstown for 90ish mins of Z2. Iâve been trying to work on being more even when riding Z2âŚfor the main work interval I ended up with average power of 232W and NP of 236W! A year ago the spread would have been much bigger.
After my GP5000 TL blew up on Sunday, I ordered some Vittoria Corsa N.EXT TLR and got to try them today. They needed a bit of gentle persuasion with a tire lever to mount and an Airshot canister to seat. I opted for 30mm up front and 32mm in the back and they are PLUSH ![]()

niceeee!
Our local boy has been over in the UK for almost 2 months, staying with his grandma. Yesterday he snagged his first podium:
of the Full Gas Summer Circuit Series.

Now come home T-man, we miss you.
Back here stateside in NorCal, I had âBig gear seated gluteus sprintimusâ work on the calendar, and snagged the ever elusive Anaerobic training effect on my Garmin:
full gas, seated, and driving power from the hips:
After nine of those 30 seconds in purgatory, it took 30 minutes to recharge and get my endurance legs back.
Throwback clubbing theme song from the 80s:

Looks so beautiful there!! I havenât been there in years. Need to go back.
Oh no!! I hope you are feeling all better.
I had a free weekend so I thought Iâd go out with a group ride. However quite a few folk were away and a couple were heading straight to the cafe. So it ended up solo to the cafe. Its roughly an hour and a half to the cafe so I fired up TrainNow and it suggested Cheeha+1 but I had an inkling to Electra (I like that its more varied).
I expected to be at the cafe just after 10am to meet them. But the warm down started somewhere near Thorpe Waterville (circa 6.5 miles from the cafe). That headwind must have been stronger than I thought. So whilst mindful of the cooldown after its was finished (8.5 minutes) I went harder again. Lol, I neednât have bothered I was there by 10 past and beat them by 4minutes.
I expected it to be more relaxed after the cafe but with finally having a tailwind and the slower of my mates needing to get straight back I got a bit carried away knowing the remaining chap could hold my wheel 90% of the time and it was actually more intense ![]()
We got to the usual pub stop with me at 92%MHR and lol, as the other folk werenât there he suggested that we went closer to town. Surprisingly I wasnât burst and I pushed onto Awalton for a pub beer garden. It would have been too cold last week but this week it was about 19deg according to the Garmin.
Thinking the Haute Route Davos last weekend was my last chance to be on the road bike since itâs been raining every day, and nearly all day, ever since, a not-raining morning with an allegedly moderate chance of drizzle meant I chanced the road ride today. Admittedly, a factor in opting for road rather than trail is my ribs are still sore from Tuesdayâs crash. Attempts to run have been largely futile, with this morningâs attempt, despite feeling better, being the worse and barely more than half a mile.
The original plan was to do a climbing route that wouldâve been about 52mi and 5500â (Sattelegg for those who want to know). But accelerated from a stop light and pulling up on the handlebar, a shooting pain in the upper arm near the shoulder socket whispered aggressive climbing should be off the table. And then it started to rain, and though light (at first), the thought of big descents and winding descents that arenât âbig descentsâ on wet pavement just a few days after crashing and hurting my ribs and shoulder seemed another reason to skip climbing. So, it was a flat day for me of ultimately 58 miles with less than 1600â of total ascent.

There was some exploring at the far end to refresh my memory of routes I hadnât taken since maybe 2018, at the latest. The ânubâ on the route is where the road I was on joined a road I was going to take up to the lake but I abandoned that idea when I saw (and recalled) the road is pretty narrow and on a rainy morning, not a wise or necessary choice.
Below is still headed away from Zurich and one of the moments I felt like I was in a model train set (the earlier moment was much stronger). The not-so-distant mountains have new snow and a train is to the left. Eventually, I turned left onto a paved farm road having an idea of where I was going, but eventually I was on gravel.
It started to rain harder. This was a rare moment when there was a separate cycle lane (thereâs a curb to the left), but itâs not a problem. Although, there was one car that came too close later on and⌠it⌠had⌠a California sticker on its rear window
Winter bibs, hat covering the ears, but I shouldâve worn overshoes as I occasionally remembered I had toes because they would dethaw enough for feeling to return momentarily. The temp was general around mid-40s F / 7C and wet.
Wow. So sorry, didnât know. Hope you are doing better.
After a good 35miles (most off road) with a mate it had started to warm up nicely so I decided to go for a cafe stop before coming home. At the cafe though I decided to do a wee bit more before it greyed over, it never did. Trying to get into the back of Woodwalton Fen Nature Reserve doesnât work I ended up doing a lot of hike-a-bike there. I decided that last Bridleway I was going to explore would probably get me back in the twilight so when it turned from gravel to grass I decided to call it a day. Looking at the PROW map the Bridleway only goes to the A1 anyway (The A1 for folk not in the UK is almost as busy as a motor/freeway).
After a night of racing on the boards, we headed out to explore some of the trails around our town. Didnât get very far - there was so much construction we kept having to dismount to get around barriers - and then hubbyâs bike started making a funny noise. Iâd hoped to have some southern Ontario fall foliage to share but this was the only picture we managed to get.
Too late to catch the airshow, but I did hear some F15 jets or something flying overhead.
might have broken into top 10 on that long PR, except I hit a traffic light. Still set a PR, these (previous gen) S-Works RapidAir tires on the Rapide CLX2 are fast and they are 30mm and not aero optimized for the rim. Speed was definitely handicapped with my gravel wheels and tires (Pirelli Cinturato), but no flats or tire drama over 2000 miles.
is that banana bread? yum!

That reminds me I need to put a tubeless tyre on my rear winter wheel and re fill the front one. Its either that or I put the new tyre on the summer wheels (they are about to wear out) but theyâll probably be off again next month.
