Went to my LBS — which happens to be a “DT Swiss Pro” Shop — and 50 bucks and 1hr later, the wheel is as good as new and all trued (not “tried”, darn autocorrect) up. :+1:

Today’s ride this morning was on the road bike in 7-8°C (46ish) sometimes wet weather. It seems summer is over. Getting through Zürich and along the top of the “left bank” (right as you look at Zurich on the map) found me stopping at nearly every light :rage: I turned around instead of going all the way round the lake because there was a section on the return I just didn’t feel like riding as it can be boring. So I doubled back and returned home counter-clockwise around the lake, which served as a reminder why I ride clockwise (because riding through Zurich anti-clockwise blows). Still, it was good to be on the bike.

I did not know there are wild pigs out there! How cool! Looks like it was a beautiful day!

Did my normal outdoor short route today with a 4x8 Threshold workout. After a week of slightly cooler temps, the heat is back on in Houston.

Out to Naseby to see the famous Battleground , well I didn’t see much of it as I was there for a hilly TT. I came away with a 2sec pb but that isn’t saying much, the previous PB was 3 months into Chemo and 44w better on NP. I would have been more aero this time without a badly bruised catheter wrist.

It was more windy this time but that shouldn’t be an excuse.

Rail trail in Park City. Beautiful day for my first gravel ride.

A friend and I have been meaning to get out there at some point. Ride from Echo to PC.

How is the trail?

Also, I went out and played a little at the local bike park. Just a loop that involves the small drop and a nice turn. Honestly, until today, I’d never hit a drop and it was certainly not as scary as I made it to be in my mind! Next week’s goal is the middle drop.

It’s pretty much as pictured… endless smooth double track. Really nice today as no dust after recent rains.

PS - I’ve been over those I-street drops more times than I can count.

I headed out to our usual gravel ride meet point but didn’t really expect anyone to turn up, so after a 5mins I went for an off road loop, followed my nose and ended up on quite a good track. Unfortunately after you’ve been on it a bit you find it blocked by a barb wired fence :-1: So I doubled back a bit then cut across a field to the unplanted bit next to it used by dog walkers. Lol, when I got to the track that I thought it would emerge on, parallel to the field was a decent track I could have used. I then followed the bridleway that leads from Elton to Haddon Hill. I was going to go over the hill and try to navigate to a cafe but at that point I saw another group of mates heading to a cafe for a relaxed road ride to the Holly Lodge cafe. They beckoned me to join them so I did. The gravel bike surprisingly kept up well (it was a relaxed ride for them). Then when I went to the front we started to head west/north at which point I found out why it was so comfortable before. The ride after the cafe thankfully mainly went northeast so whilst it was hard it could have been worse. The final bit was straight north on the very open Holme Road to Yaxley and thats when I really felt it. I managed to hang on for a bit but eventually I and a few others got detached when it was around 22mph and I slowed to 18mph. I think on my own I would have totally blew up at that point but eventually the other detached riders came by and gave me a bit of shelter. After regrouping just before Yaxley after saying pur goodbyes we started to break up and a few of us headed to Peterborough town.

Edit:

My road bike freehub has a very minute amount of play. Its incredibly silent on a solo ride but like a chainsaw sometimes in a group. Ill probably put into a shop to get serviced, in the meantime Ive swapped for an older clincher wheel, after transferring the cassette. On a short test ride to Elton and back trying to pedal at different cadences etc it seems to be good. Until I ride in a hard group again it is impossible to say :crossed_fingers: Just before I put the bike away I stopped for a pic and noticed this big wee chap.

Lol, if you want to see him in action he’s on my Instagram feed https://www.instagram.com/p/CiptKyPM1fSdGprPn7B6ayp63-OJcrA0VEgcko0/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Just a nice Zone 2 ride today. Humidity is still in the ridiculous range.

Realized yesterday that my left crank power meter has been dead since I replaced the batteries a month or so ago and my last several rides have all been drive side only. I don’t pay attention to L/R balance, but I guess i need to start at least verifying both sides are reporting! Changed the battery again, so now I’m getting data from both sides :man_facepalming:

In August, my cycling buddy and I tackled the Mt. Baker route, a 170km bike ride from the Canadian border (Sumas, BC) up to Artist point which overlooks Mt. Baker in Washington. It was my longest day on the saddle with around 7 hours of cycling and 2300m of elevation gain. I joined my friend on his Great Cycling Challenge to help raise funds for kid’s cancer treatment and despite some adversity (2 flats; 1 broken saddle; run in with a truck, muscle cramps in 30+C heat) we completed the imperial century (100 miles) and were amazed by the epic views.

Today was the day for the annual Rapha Women’s 100 so off we went for a metric century. My Canyon is a Women’s 100 edition so feel like I should represent. As usual Mr. F put together a great route and got to see more of the hill towns to our west. Weather went from cool and foggy to sunny and humid to threatening rain but we made it home dry. I felt strong today with no flagging toward the end. Great day riding with the husband!

Great picture! Sounds very eventful - hopefully everyone okay after the run-in with the truck.

Oooooh beautiful bike!

After a full day at the track for me yesterday - coaching 3 sessions, and then racing in the evening, this afternoon was a recovery ride on the rail trail somewhat close to us.

Legs were cooked from 3 x 30 @ SST yesterday. Slept in, went to church, lifted a little, then kayaked with the wife. After seeing @HLaB’s stink bug I felt compelled to share some pics of the wildlife we saw.

This ride was in my Strava feed yesterday:

not mine, a guy I know. He did 117 miles and 14,000+ feet of climbing starting with Little Cottonwood canyon and going north.

Was this an organized ride? Is there a name for doing those 5 canyons? I want in.

Fantastic pics! Long time ago I used to fly into Seattle to visit customers, and then drive up to Vancouver for more meetings. Was always a great day if I got to see Mt Baker.
