Where did you ride OUTSIDE today (2022)

Longer ish loop. Fastest time ever by 2 min which I noticed after but definitely did not feel like it at the time. Maybe it was the Footloose playing :joy:.

Love my 1040 solar and the music widget works really well. Screen easy to see but reflective when taking a pic of it.

Cap Formentor out and back!

Hmm, scratch that, it was a Stages SC3 stationary bike in resistance mode and never felt like I was climbing… Deleting that Strava workout and keeping the boring Garmin recording.

108F / 42C outside and I rode 12 minutes to the gym on my grocery store bike. Didn’t feel that hot, but it was only 12 minutes.

Ok, too hot to roll outside so it was Two Hour Tuesday in the gym:

and I put myself in the corner and used the massive fan:

perfect cooling with my back an arms length from the wall - felt like I had 2 fans!

Then 2 hours at 200+W and lowest HR ever at that wattage - nothing but low to mid zone2 HR - at average temp of 66F / 19C:

The people watching at the gym is priceless, love those picture windows. About half hour into my workout, two scrawny high school boys came in, moved some spin bikes, and used the mirrored back wall to take selfies without shirts. Then a bit later the instructor for the 5:30pm spin class came in early to setup and we chatted a bit while she moved the spin bikes back into position.

About 45 minutes later the class started and my 2 hours were up, so I cleaned up the bike and snuck out as the nearly full class was getting into their groove with some sick tunes playing on the sound system. Maybe next time I’ll come at 4:30 and stay for the class, the instructor was playing some jams and was putting out some motivational vibes.

Rode to the bike shop for some new grips, and then back home for a dip in the pool. About 35 minutes total bonus minutes on the grocery store bike, in the heat.

You’ve got Kenny Loggins playing and it’s NOT Danger Zone? That would have got you at least 10W more!!

Very true and will queue that up next time to get the extra 10w. Lol

Today an easy run as it was first one in 6+ months. Kept hr under 150. Also made myself a nice latte this morning. Have a cafelat robot and bellman steamer and latte art getting slightly better. Ha

Only outdoor rides so far this week have been Monday and Tuesday afternoon cruises with bike camp - about 5k each time, and I recorded them out of curiosity more than anything. Here’s yesterday’s one - that max speed was me riding to my car at the end lol. The 130bpm was probably from the sheer terror of biking with all the kids :joy:

A cr@p night’s sleep for me showed and I struggled into the strong wind on the Wednesday night’s Paceline. With just 3 of us tonight there was little place to hide.

Probably not helped by it being a dull night but it was pretty dark by the time I got back.

I think I want to bite the bullet and by a polar H10. I tried a new strap on the TickR tonight and it was worse. With the old strap it seemed to record a HR that would shoot up or down occasionally in too short a time. The new strap seems to record permanently low. I probably overcooked it on the way out and it was a bit disconcerting when it said my HR was 40%.

Clearly my barista skills have a long way to go…

Try passing adults on bikes “walking” their leashed dog that doesn’t like to run straight!

@HLaB I can’t bring myself to spend the big bucks on H10 and really like the more affordable Garmin dual HRM.

FYI I showed it to my wife and she burst out laughing.

She has a collection of framed Georgia O’Keefe prints.

When you see it …

After several weeks off the bike–it was 3 weeks precisely but it feels more like 3 months–I got out for a “flat” ride this afternoon. I arrived home Monday morning after 4 weeks in the US, and despite having the intention of riding, I didn’t have the energy. I did manage to get in 9 miles of running, but over 4 goes (2 in Boston and 2 here… I’m a long way from “if I can’t run 6 miles, it’s not worth putting on my running shoes”), and one swim (Tuesday, all of 1000m… in 50s though with back/breast/and fly drill). In the end, I’ve lost weight, so that’s good. It seems it was all muscle, so that’s not so good.

Today’s ride was my most flat out-the-door option for my road bike, giving me 900’ of ascent over 13.3 miles (270m / 21km). Fortunately for me, 7.5 minutes into the ride, my wife called so I pulled over and talked to her for 20min while she walked to work in Boston, a welcome rest for me

The temp is cooling, with a light long sleeve possible, though I stuck with a short sleeve out of principle, at 21C/70F. Soon enough after the ride is started to rain and should continue to rain through tomorrow, which is welcome moisture after the dry summer that I missed here.

The “best” (it’s relative, or relatively funny) part is my Garmin 1040 says I’m good at flats, though I think it says that because my FTP didn’t go up with my weight… (TR AI wanted to drop my FTP 6.something %… out of denial I tapped “nah”).

(I swear my calves are skinnier than 4 weeks ago… :unamused:)

Reminds me to post a pic of this season’s first hibiscus bloom, from 3 days ago:

Our tuberose also had first bloom this past week, what an intoxicating fragrance!

Kicking it off by getting sick in Hawaii is no vacation :frowning_with_open_mouth: Welcome back!

Buttertubs +2 was in my calendar tonight and I took it down Bullock Rd and then crossed into the flat Fen. I was wanting to do more work in the TT bars but it was often quite busy traffic wise and with the winds I wanted to be out from gutter a bit  The last block is a little weak as with a strong tailwind and I was heading through the larger town Whittlesea.
Orton Mere (Peterborough)-Bullock Rd-Glatton-into the Fens-Holme-Pondersbridge-Whittlesea-Ponderbridge-Whittlesea-Stanground(Peterborough)-Fletton(Peterborough)-Orton Mere(Peterborough)
Then a crawl through the park where I stopped as usual to take a selfie.

Not new, no upgrades or new parts, just a deep clean, but it feels like new bike day just the same after my LBS did their thing.

Still loving this one :smiley::+1:t2:

I did loops in the backyard, practicing mounts, dismounts, getting on and off the bike, clipping into my new Time ATAC pedals, and generally looking like a fool.

I’ve never done CX before, so this fall should result in some hilarious stories (if stories about old guys having a mid-life crisis of needing to race bikes to satisfy a bucket list item interests you, then it will be hilarious. If you think back-of-the-pack age groupers telling mid-life crisis stories are boring (and you’re probably right,) then please skip forward over my grasping for meaning in life and dubious CX race reports).

EDIT- pic is with my Shimano pedals, but the Time’s are on it now.

Sounds fun!

Kinda similar, I had to do a quick 1 hour workout and ended up doing 9 laps around a 1 mile neighborhood loop:

This bear cheered me on all 9 times!

88F / 31C on the last 3.5 minute interval at 114% - 80s is the new 60s - so no problemo!

Nice job! Very picturesque park.

lol yeah that’s not a park that’s a house sitting on 5 or 10 acres. Nice neighborhood for the ballers, like the former major leaguer that hit 50+ home runs in 1998 (he helped my nephew get drafted out of HS).
