Love the wildflowers!
The bluebonnets are only out and thick like this for a few weeks of the year and pretty much the entire community goes out for pictures. It’s beautiful. On our drive home after the ride, there were dozens of cars pulled over with families taking pictures!
6 minutes slower up the climb compared to last week, but still happy with the ride. I had some fun on the single track descending into City Creek Canyon.
Its hardly worth posting but I will anyway ![]()
I nipped through the park for a quick test of my bike that had been in storage. After a few brakes and gear shift tests I decided to take it out on to the road. I took it just past Awalton and decided Id better turn. In a complete contrast from yesterday its turned right mild but cloudy and windy. Which meant it was just over 20mins out (that does include break/ gear testing) and 13minutes back ![]()
Saturday’s snow (see above) stayed Sunday when my funday was on the trails in a forest but not in a saddle. Drove down near Bern for another 3D archery shoot, but considering I swapped out my riser for a 23" from a 19", and I was wearing winter gloves that I don’t like and slip, it was just for experience… and enjoyment. +6hrs of walking through the forest with 28 groups, my group was 6 people. In the first pic, there are two targets. (the good news: I wasn’t last in my class
)
Anyway, the snow began melting in the afternoon so when I hit the same hill covered in a nice powder of a few inches on Sunday, I had just gravel.
And some sections of single track were dry enough. There are a couple of sections where the start is a steep, rooty bit that’s not worth it when the roots are wet and thus slicker than ice. Rocks are good, though.

That was Monday afternoon was 8.8mi and 1100’ of climbing and shortened a bit because I accidentally deleted the “gravel” profile on my Garmin 830 somehow(!!) thus delaying my start. It was only minutes but it felt longer… I’ll have some cheese with my w(h)ine.
This morning the gravel bike went to my LBS for its “spring cleaning” so I had to get out in the morning beforehand. I’m finishing(-ed) a build phase with all the vo2 work, which is why I went out and pounded this same climb pictured above (and repeatedly), again. Here’s a view looking down on my return to the base to take another climb after doing this one. The trail goes under the train…

I was out of the frame up and to the left for the pic above. This track is busy with one track serving two directions. In general, there are two trains in one direction and then two in the other. There’s a tunnel to the right and another to the left. This is a favorite place for me because it’s peaceful, even though to the right out of the frame is the road I drive twice daily (at least) to take the kid(s… now just one) to school in the morning. This spot reminds me that living here often gives the sense of living in a model train set.

This morning’s ride was a bit harder and I’m glad today starts a base phrase.
YTD stats are fun:
Yesterday afternoon it was 6º-8ºC and this morning it was 1º-2ºC. I look forward to dry and warm weather and longer rides, both on the road and the trails.

Put together this morning and rode the 20k route (Z2/Z3) only 5 km/h slower compared to best all out effort last late summer when I began riding on road bike. ![]()
Not so much scenic pics this time besides bike, but windy, snowing and freezing hands.
Very happy with the bike though besides some minor tweaks to saddle, levers and brakes need bleeding pretty bad.
So these are new bike day (NBD) pics? Congrats!!
Thank you. ![]()
Sneak peek in bad location, lighting, weather, etc.
Was just excited getting outdoor and not stuck on trainer doing Z2 for a change.
Congratulations on your new bike! Me too!
I picked up my new Levo this week, and it’s a recovery week, so I’m hitting the local trails and dialing everything in. We have a brand new race coming to my town and a few new trails have been cut that need to be burned in, which is a blast on the ebike!
Today feels like NBD, but no, the gravel bike is just back from it’s spring cleaning (always a tear down event) with new tires and, as is always the case, new headset bearings, top and bottom. Severe winds means this’ll likely remain pristine until Sunday.
I had fancied doing my workout outside tonight now that the clocks have changed but the sporadic heavy showers and crazy winds here have convinced me that training wise it’ll be much more productive to do the ride indoors ![]()
Slow trek around the valley alongside the dog.
She was sceptical about the bike, hub, staying in front of the bike, on the right of me and just suspicious wtf we were doing in general. ![]()
Decent weather though with the sun almost out, but not quite.
2 hour endurance workout (Gibbs) for my inaugural ride on New Bike Day with my 2022 Domane SL6 eTap. Pure joy.
Sidelined Mon-Wed, got back out tonight with T-man a young cat2. His coach (made it to world tour, 2x olympic coach) told him to ride a LOT more at 150-180W because being a carb burner is affecting his performance in road races. I’m like dude, ride with me, my target is 180-215 and you can draft me.
T-man took a pic as we headed home:
Earlier he pulled out his INSCYD test and I asked about his vo2max - 70 vs my 45. Getting old sucks LOL, so I got even, as we went up a short pitch and I said “200W what are you doing” and he couldn’t believe it and that either my Tarmac was more efficient than his Madone, or I had to be higher than 3W/kg. I was doing 280-320. LOL.
I was sidelined Mon-Wed this week and missed the Wed night group ride.
Last night T-man told me about the ride, said he was coming down the overpass, riding and talking with PK, and then PK was gone. Crashed. Cement blob in the road. Guy in front had a rear view camera and caught the whole thing:
Hard to watch. Near the end you can see one of the group putting his foot on the blob, its a big blob. That’s the overpass I get a lot of flats, from all the screws and nails falling of construction trucks.
PK is ok. Needs new handlebars and helmet.
Help keep the roads clean! Stay safe out there!
Sympathy Like given ( I don’t actually like). I hope your mate recovers fast!
Auch! I hope PK and his bike are alright.
Damn. That thing is huge. Glad he’s ok.
I need a button for “OMG that sucks so bad” instead of just “like.” I’m glad he is okay and I hope he recovers swiftly. I see so much garbage everywhere on the roads but I have never heard of concrete blobs or the hazard they pose. Glad he is ok.
Love that pic!
