Where did you ride OUTSIDE today (2021)

OK, that’s awesome!

reminds me of a local guy that rode up into the Sierras last week and found ice above 4000ft / 1200m:

ice skates for the win!

That looks awesome!

Recovery week!
I decided to go for a ride up along the Gold Coast today. Rainy, but still stunning weather.

I started at the headland in the middle. Ended up accidentally crossing into NSW which is way off in the distance then headed north before running into Burleigh Headland.

I swung past the White House. I must’ve missed all the excitement.

 Complete with unwanted junk left out the front by previous tenants.

Rode the opposite direction and came back into town at the winery:

If you look closely on the right you can see an HC climb in the eastern part of the Bay Area.

Out of my brain on the 5:15 sunset (for all The Who fans):

You do Skating for 90k on a frozen lake? That‘s crazy.
How cold is it where you live?

Not OP, but that map is in Sweden. That sort of long-distance ice skate touring is a thing here in Norway too. There are special blades that attach to cross-country ski boots, and people do backpacking trips across frozen lakes.

Wow and I thought the UKs fens were flat. Nice one :+1:

lol it’s hilarious. if you look at a couple previous rides a 5h is like 600 feet i think :rofl::rofl:

It’s actually not that cold around here, even though we’re just slightly south of Anchorage, AK from memory. Which is why the sport is so popular here.
We get sub freezing in winter but usually go through several cycles of above freezing that keeps the ice free from snow.
Water depth has a lot to do with when a lake freezes and that particular one, while pretty big is shallow. I think average depth is 6m or so (18isch feet).

Scott the pastor caught me as we left the city limits and we rode side-by-side for an hour. In a testament to riding by feel you can see how well I did holding zone2. Almost never looked at bike computer as we chatted because he (like so many others) is leaving CA and moving back east. Worked on my sprints, the last two with 5-sec power above 1000W. Started to develop a feel for standing and putting down power. Maybe in a year I can add a few hundred watts :crossed_fingers:

Another supposed recovery week ride.
0.8 IF for 2 hrs is recovery, right?
Anyway, there a way to many good looking people in this neck of the woods and the scenery is stunning. The ride went a little further than yesterday’s and I managed some better photos.
Enjoy.

North Burleigh looking south then one from the south end. PS. 26c in the water.

Next time I’m heading down this way I’ll bring the road bike and hit the hills to the west. Absolutely beautiful.

Ha. I remember those days. Way back when, at the turn of the century, a bunch of us would be on the return portion of our 8-16 mile run, which started about 15-20min after a 2 or 3mi ocean swim (the 60-100mi bike ride was the day before), along the bike path in Hermosa and Manhattan Beach in Southern California… in the summer. Even if you couldn’t or didn’t want to go fast, at least you had great form as a lean, fit triathlete. Of course, you made sure your sunglasses were rinsed and not clouded with sweat… The 7a start for the swim plus the run out meant the return was perfectly timed. (these days, I purposefully run before dawn so no one can see me… so different)

Was meant to be Andrews outside… didn’t quite go to plan!

It was a beautiful sun-shiny Winter day:

Location: Netherlands
Distance: 120 km
Altimeters: 402
Time: 4h32
Outside temperature: 5 °C / 41°F

Your water looks so pretty there! I hope you get pictures of your next ride, too! Wildlife sanctuary seems fascinating!

@mountainrunner – YAY for the LA beaches! I have fond memories of them too!

My Pirelli 4S lasted a full 31km… then we encountered a long shard of glass.:tired_face:
Although this is misfortune, I don’t feel like they are as puncture resistant as the Contis… more on that next week!

Fat biking on perfectly groomed Nordic trails. Overnight stay in a yurt. Cold beer. Warm fire. This is the way.

This is the way.

Ps. The beer couldn’t get warm if it tried.
