I still say that for someone that has “been doing structured training, including interval training since late 2020.” to get a 19% increase in FTP from a 13 week plan in late summer 2024 is such a big gain, in such a short time, that it is likely quite fragile. Or, as you put it, “sustainable, just not with all the intensity.”
When you come back to training after this recovery period, I hope you achieve your targets.
Because we’re all unique and our bodies respond different to training, it’s hard to pin point where things went south, if anything it could have been a build up of multiple things.
I think what’s important here, is that it sounds like you’re fatigued and you’ll be addressing it by starting a plan in May recommended by our custom training plan system instead of adding the HadHoc plans manually, which is a great move as the system recommends a training load rather than you picking it yourself and potentially falling into a tarp of doing too much. And as I mentioned, the best judge to address this, at the end of the day is you as you know your body best. Really paying attention to how you feel is key and this going low to high transition can make it easier to address.
As far as the survey answer, to me the effort you were describing sounded like Very Hard instead of Hard. I guess what I was trying to point out is that I wouldn’t base a survey answer on whether you would have been able to complete another interval set or not, but rather how the overall effort felt like without over thinking it too much. I think this is something that comes with time, and our survey guide is there to help decide, but don’t let it be rigid, go with what it felt like to you.
