Looks like we have the the same friend..does his name start with Ya? ![]()
Don’t move to Texas… If you are racing or riding hard in the group in the summer, you are ingesting the sweat of people in front of you. It does vary by individual though. We had a guy on our team that was one of the strongest/smoothest wheels to sit on, but riding behind him in the heat was like taking a constant sweat shower. Never stopped me from riding with him and we actually did a couple 2 man TT’s together. Sure it’s nasty, but not as nasty as some contact sport IMO (basketball, wrestling, etc.) where you are basically doing constant sweat swapping.
I just left Houston after almost 30 years. Believe me when I say this guy was abnormal. I don’t know how anyone wearing glasses could stand to be behind him. I literally could not see.
Serious question, how do you evacuate the nasal passage while riding if not with a rocket? The old snotty glove has to be more gross surely ![]()
For me, I go to the back and then let it fly.
I know he said any time is bad though.
Ha, this reminds me of a ride with my mate in the open hills on a very hot, windy, and dry day. At one point I got pelted by water drops in the face as we were riding side by side. I commented that it must be so windy that it was ripping the water off a farmers pond… but there was no pond… it was sweat peeling of my mate in the wind.
I made sure I was always up wind after that.
Headphones my god no. They’re bone conducting headphones.
Joe
Man, you guys are pretty squeamish. Don’t take up boxing, wrestling, rugby, aussie football, …
If you’re not snot rocketing, are you even riding hard enough?
Personally, I don’t seem to have this affliction. Even if I ride with a cold or when the hayfever kicks in, it seems my nose is clear whilst on the bike

But if your really feel you must, do this:

If you have time to snot rocket, are you riding hard enough? ![]()
Giving you a thumbs up because I do ride with headphones almost always. BUT I keep them on “transparent mode” so they actually pick up and transmits noises that sometimes I wouldn’t otherwise hear.
I also always ride solo, if that makes a difference.
I’m safer with headphones in. Between wind noise, gravel noise, and more electric vehicles, often times I can’t hear vehicles approaching anyway. But I always ride with my Varia and a rear view mirror, and the varia alerts in my headphones give me awareness that riding headphone free can’t match (as well as keeping visual awareness with the mirror). And at the same time I’m actually protecting my hearing with buds in vs. the loud environmental noise pollution.
Breathing is fundamental.
Surely there’s a better way of asking that question?![]()
Mismatched tyres - and now my bike has them!
Two different shades of amber Panaracers after needing a fresh rear tyre. Maybe all black is the way to go.
Simple solution: replace both tires at the same time

They were both too new! 10 months and 5 months, only I put such a hole in one that I didn’t want to patch it as it’s going on my audax soon which is my goal event for 2026. Bit annoying as I did the damage going up a trail on a spur of the moment to add a little extra clilmb in!
LMAO. I wear’em every day, still going strong.
The proper way that I’ve learned to do it depends where in the pack, I’m at. If I’m at the back, then firer away without regard. If I’m closer up front or pulling off to one side or the other, I blow my right nostril by pointing under my right arm and aiming for the ground away from anyone. Same for the left side - so far, I haven’t been yelled at by any other riders when doing it like this.
