I bought some Hunt Aerodynamicist 62s this spring. I’ve had my eyes on Hunt for some time since they’re about the only wheel manufacturer that still makes rim road wheels.
I don’t know what their shipping charges are but another to consider is CORE SuperLight Rim Brake – Scribe Cycling
Often I can’t be bothered to look for socks when riding the turbo. So I ride without them.
About a month ago I had the bright idea to take apart my rival, explorer rear derailer jockey wheels to clean them up because it sounded so squeaky. It turned out that it was just my chain that needed to be waxed. However, I had a hell of a time putting it back together and I couldn’t ever get the shifting dialed in. It was barely rideable so I wrote it of course and I just now got around to taking a closer look at it. It ends up the upper shocky wheel has a dust cap with a slightly larger hole than the other side, which allows the jockey wheel to fit snuggly onto a mount. I didn’t realize it at the time and just finally figured it out. This is after I re-waxed my chain, which is a flat top, installed it upside down like a bone head, and I was forced to reckon with my miserable shifting. This is not to mention the fact that I try to attach my upper jockey wheel to the pivot the first time around anyhow all is good now I can’t believe what I’ve gone ahead I am sometimes.
I loose vast amounts of watts because I HATE tight fitting clothes, especially jerseys, and often ride long road rides in flappy trousers and t-shirts.
In te same way audaxers ride side by side chatting rather than working as a group into the wind.
Guilty on all fronts
This is the way

I resemble that remark.
Actually no, when it’s a proper headwind we’ll sometimes work together. But naturally the speeds are lower because it’s not a race. Some randonneurs seem to have pushed back at the racing culture, measuring their rides by “faff” content… long breaks at controls, extra breaks for photos or that bakery they’ve been meaning to get to. One such faffer called himself “maximum value”, routinely finishing rides mere minutes before their closing times.
Well, it’s hardly audacious if you actually work together!
I always thought the point of audax was to hurt yourself as much as physically possible ![]()
Alright… time to confess. Deep breath.
I’ve absolutely taped my cleats back together mid-ride instead of admitting I needed new shoes.
I’ve told myself, “It’s just a recovery ride”, only to find myself chasing down a random rider on the road like I’m in a local crit.
I own a torque wrench. I do not use the torque wrench.
I’ve convinced myself that “aero is everything” while riding solo on an empty bike path… in a skin suit.
I once skipped a scheduled ride because I didn’t want to clean my bike afterward. Not because I was tired. Not because I was busy. Just didn’t want to deal with chain gunk.
I’ve looked at someone’s bike setup and silently judged their spacer stack… while my own headset creaks like a haunted house door.
Oh, and I too shave my legs — not for watts, not for massage benefits — just because they look way too good not to.
Glad this is a safe space.
That’s a classic. ![]()
I had a embarrassing event last month. The pace of my Thursday night group ride was high but comfortable for me. I thought a bloke was struggling all the way round. On the very last hill I thought he was struggling again so I gave him a big push. Unfortunately, just as he came back to life and stood up on the pedals. I ended up on the deck and managed to rip my new jersey and bibs ! Didn’t actually bruise, was just cut up a lot and embarrassed more!
Somewhat (un)shameful confession:
If you don’t have a power meter on your MTB, I assume that KOM was from you riding an e-bike. ![]()
You forgot the hr monitor to go with it!
Love this! That is an awesome way to enter the forum.
Welcome!

Were you the guy who overtook me and a mate on a long off-road climb in Sussex UK. We were riding our carbon FS XC MTBs w spds and fancy shoes and shorts - guy on a steel single speed beater overtakes us, and to add insult to injury was wearing wellies. Felt very humbled. I was coming back from knee surgery (my excuse anyway)
To be fair I habe to take back my opinion on this. Everyone should just ride as they want, I hope everyone gets something out of it (fun?).
I sometimes feel a bit sorry for bikes that look unridden (like unused tires), but no one should care. ![]()
Cycling shouldn’t always be fun.
I was riding home from work yesterday on my aero bike. It’s been super windy here in the bay area and as I was coming to stop I unclipped my right foot. A huge gust of wind came and nearly pushed me over to the left but I was able to get my foot down in just the nick of time. That would’ve painful and embarrassing.
