Watt bike proton

Hi. 1st post here. Been using direto xr trainer with road bike past few years. Was thinking of swapping to watt bike proton. It’s a bit smaller, others in house can use it, saves swapping bikes all the time. I’ve used watt bikes in the gym which don’t have erg and always seemed ok. Has anybody else done similar? Asking before I commit.

Of course there is the DCR review: Wattbike Proton Smart Bike In-Depth Review | DC Rainmaker

Funny you should say that. I was just reading it. And it performs very very well. Almost seems no brainer now tbh

I’m not sure if it still holds true with the Proton - but the Atom was unable to use TR in resistance mode, if that matters to you.

They are saying it’s more stable than the atom And has upgraded gear ratio for stability. Tbh I’m in 2 minds about using erg. I’m not convinced it’s a better solution vs you the rider modulating the power

If it the same at the atom then you won’t have a choice - you would HAVE to use ERG.

It’s resistance mode that didn’t work.

Can you not just switch all that off and use it like an old non smart trainer ie just manually control the resistance used the bike resistance ? Thinking of how i would do low RPM sessions as you dont track power

The issue (as I understand it because I don’t have an atom) is that resistance mode doesn’t work because you cannot change the bike resistance.

The virtual gears don’t work so you are stuck at one resistance.

Like using a single speed bike on a dumb trainer.

Argh gotcha.
So only solution would be to use watt bike app or bike computer and follow as an outside workout
