Trapeziometacarpal and trigger finger

I’m looking for anyone with experience with this problem I have developed. Surgeries or any ideas that have helped. My orthopedic doctor says it’s now bone on bone. His PA says the best results they have seen is with the rolled up tendon surgery. It’s painful. Got the customary cortisone shot but it’s still swollen. Been wearing a thumb brace off and on. 2 gloves when out on the road bike but since I can’t really use the thumb mtn biking is probably over. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Still want to ride 100miles when I’m 100. Hoping it’s not on an e-bike.

Bump
Anyone?

My dad has had trapezium removal bilaterally for this. He said it’s life changing.

No experience with the condition, but I don’t understand that. Is it because you can’t hold onto the bars? Or just because you can’t shift?

If it’s because of the bars, barends or these mini-barends that sit more in the middle of the bars will give you another hand position. Also maybe this is a use case for a drop-bar MTB.

If it’s a shifting problem, some sort of grip-shift (where you twist a bit at the end of the grips) might make it possible, or you could use electronic shifters and even possible position them upside down, so you can shift with your fingers, not your thumb.

Thanks for the replies.

How long ago and is the surgery working as when it was first done?

Due to my thumb being unstable I developed trigger finger (index and middle) Received 3 cortisone shots today.was told 1 week off the bike until the swelling goes down. Anyone else have a recovery timeline with this?

Get the surgery. It’s easy and reliable.
