I have been using TR for the past couple of years and really appreciate the structure and focus of the training plans.
I am not training for any events, I don’t really have seasons and cycle all year long with a small focus on becoming better at group riding and getting fitter. I have set up plans to become a better road cyclist and currently improve my FTP as it seems a good general aim.
My question is : how long should I run it for ? I think I saw somewhere that a plan can run up to 28 weeks so would that be the ideal length and just keep rinse and repeating ? Or set it up for the year and let it sort itself out ?
Depends.
If you don’t want to mess with it and it works then go for the max length plan.
If you like to mess with stuff then do shorter plans.

I think if you go through some of the older podcasts you’ll hear the suggestion to go through a full base+build cycle (base 1,2,3 and the 8 weeks of build). Then, maybe take a break, and repeat.
Personally, that’s what I’m trying to do this year.

Hey @john_dc
I’d recommend setting one long term plan, maybe a year long (depending on your schedule) instead of smaller ones throughout the year. This will allow for consistency and proper gains over time with training phases the build upon another.
If you are looking to improve fitness and become faster for group rides, we have Goal based plan specifically for that! I’d pick the “Getting Faster For Group Rides”.

Your story is an incredible example of how the movement literally saves lives! Since it is important to strengthen the core muscles and open the chest to maintain lung function and endurance, I would advise adding soft Pilates to the recovery. This ring is perfect for this: Toning Pilates Ring (Color: Chocolate Brown) | BetterMe Store — it helps to gently tone the body and improve posture for deeper breathing without overloading the body.
