Is anyone aware of a trainer that is compatible with SRAM full mount drivetrains like Transmission and Red XPLR 13? Are there are any trainers that attach the bike to the trainer using the through axle? All the ones I know of use a quick release skewer and the nut on the end would clamp on the derailleur mount bolt which sounds like a bad idea.
Thanks, Shane! My Neo 2 definitely appears to not support through axles. Could you please list a few that work with through axles and are compatible with the Zwift Cog? I donât want to put a $600 XPLR cassette on a trainer. Itâs twice as expensive as some trainers
I have a wahoo kicker v6 and have no issues using my gravel bike with the sram red xplr 13 speed. When I switched from shimano to sram I just had to change the an xdr freehub on the trainer.
You might need the TA end caps for the trainer if you donât have them. The Neo 2 is definitely compatible with TA or QR.
Any smart rollers will do (elite nero, inside ride emotion)
Perhaps, but some of them are not long enough for some of the modern MTBâs with longer wheelbases. Always need to check specs between bike and rollers to be sure.
Thanks for the advice everyone! I ordered the end cap kit. The photo showed a QR skewer but that apparently is not used with through axles. Also the XDr freehub. I hope to use theZwift cog one of these days instead of a super expensive cassette. Garmin support wouldnât give any hard confirmation of when the trainers would be âZwift Readyâ but did say that they worked closely with Zwift and would likely have it eventually.
My buddy used the Zwift cog with his sram red xplr 213 spd without issue
Thatâs great to hear that the Zwift Cog works with XPLR 13. Now I just need Tacx to do the software part.
You donât need to put a Red cassette on the trainer either. The XG compatible cassette is $124 MSRP or the lowest XDr model can be found for under $140.
Can I just ask a stupid question here - is the zwift cog combability purely the software to enable the gear changes in zwift? Could they be put on ânon-compatibleâ trainers if you only intended TR and ERG mode use?
eg I have a hammer 1, and wouldnât mind the ability to quickly swap between bikes, and currently only use TR?
The COG will install onto any trainer with the typical Shimano HG / SRAM compatible freehub body. If you plan to use just ERG mode, this will work fine.
My understanding is that the Zwift cog fits onto any 11 speed Shimano free hub. The main part is the software that changes resistance when you tell Zwift to shift. In Erg mode it would be fine without the software I think.
Is the cog spacing the same between the XPLR and other cassettes? I guess if it is then it would work but youâd need to be careful to not shift off the cassette (12 vs 13 cogs)!
Ohhhh Iâm sorry. I forgot about 13 spd. In that case yeah get the cog or youâre stuck waiting a year or two for 13 speed to make it to force/rival/apex levels.
I have the XPLR 13 spd and run a 12 spd SRAM cassette on my trainer. It does NOT run âwellâ on any cog other than the 17 tooth cog. Since I only ride in ERG mode, this is a non-issue. I made sure to select a cassette where the 17 tooth cog was the same distance from the small 10 tooth cog as my 13 spd cassette.
I certainly wouldnât try zwift or something else where I needed to shift with this setup, but am comfortable with how itâs currently set.
Iâm not sure if I could set up the zwift cog electronic shifting to this current cassette, or if I would need to get that actual cog itself.
This is an older thread, but I recently bought a new (used) gravel bike with a 13 speed XPLR setup. I currently have a neo 2 trainer and cannot for the life of me figure out how to mount a full mount derailleur on it. The skewer need to thread into the drive side of the bike, but the UDH wonât allow the threaded adaptors in from the outside of the drive side.
Can anyone help? Do I need to find a different trainer?
Neo 2T and 3M have no issues with my Transmission MTB and Gravel Bike using the through axles. I use a cassette and not the Zwift Cog.
Thank you! I have a line on a Neo 2T off marketplace, but I wanted to make sure.
My wife only has so much patience for âjust a few more dollars and Iâll be doneâ
As a general comment to the thread topic.
I have two Wahoo V6âs, one set up with my SRAM Red XPLR 13 spd and a Zwift Cog, and the other with my MTB and SRAM XX 12 spd, also set up with a zwift cog. Both work very well, and with both, I control the power for TR through the resistance with my Garmin head unit. If I used Zwift, I could just use the zwift cog electronic shifting, or with TR, I could use ERG mode..
