Just bought a 2nd hand mountain bike for the first time in adult life (and it seems to have a Frankensteinesque assortment of parts, here the white saddle). Maintenance tips welcome!

Crashed my bike in April. Insurance gave the all clear for a new one. First frame arrived broken, second frame was way too small after some conversations it was cleared to supply this one. 12 week wait and it’s here and I love it. First ride this morning. Very happy
It’s a Colnago C64

New bike day! 2020 Top Fuel custom build, can’t wait to get it dirty!

New bike day!

so jealous of that frame color. looks so good with the kashima coating on the fork. pity the headtube is a 27.2mm though. I consider getting the new spesh epic ht frame. have fun with your new ride!

Put in a pre-order today for a 2020 Bombtrack Hook EXT steel frameset. Going full custom, probably with a dynamo setup for commuting and dirtsploration

Loving the custom build, I’m looking at getting 12spd XT or XTR on my 2018 Top Fuel. Do your wheels have the Bontrager rapid drive hubs? I can’t find a micro-spline freehub body for them in Australia yet.

Yeah they do, for some reason Bontrager haven’t made a big deal about having Micro Spline freehubs available. I run a Trek shop in Oz, I’ve got the free hub bodies and end caps in stock. Shoot me an email bendigo@cyclescape.com.au

Excellent, I’ll try my local guys again and will drop you a message if they can’t get one.

No worries! I’ll shoot you the part numbers tomorrow when I’m back in the shop.

Freehub part number is 594204
End cap part number is W586894

That’s fantastic, thanks very much.

Honey I shrunk the chainring.

Nah, more like “Honey, I blew up the cassette.” :stuck_out_tongue:

32 tooth oval, nothing too out of the ordinary.

Visually it seems a lot smaller - probably because of the cassette. What’s the largest cog?

Just a narrow-minded road cyclist educating himself.

The rear cassette has a 51t low gear, on the new Shimano stuff.

Added my first ever MTB to the stable earlier this year.

Specialized Rock Hopper Expert 29er hardtail.

It will mainly be ridden for a bit of off-road fun with my 6-year-old boy. Any advice for upgrades?

The best money you can spend for your first MTB:

  • Convert wheels tubeless with good tires
  • Dropper post
  • Better brakes (if they aren’t already good)

These will make the biggest difference in your progression and otherwise, ride the bike until it wears out or you think you are ready to go to something bigger!
