Unfortunately it’s getting winter now in germany.

Few more touches on the ALR: added tan tires though I’m still unsure if I like these more than black. I also got an Aeolus RSL saddle to match my Madone but unfortunately the Ritchey seatpost I previously got for free didn’t have 7x10 ears available, only 7x9.6 which did not fit, so I also had to get a new seatpost. Thankfully I bought the saddle from a friend who works at TREK off one of his personal bikes and guilted him into getting me the post at a discount. Bike is at 8kg with pedals, cages, and garmin mount which isn’t bad for an alloy bike with a throwaway wheelset and mostly r8000

Lovely looking bike and spec. I’d switch back to the black-wall tyres, think it looks better with the shiny rim surface, but that’s just a matter of taste. 8kg is pretty excellent. Cut off the stem chimney to get it sub 8kg :laughing:. So nice to see a nice bike without 5 different batteries and hydraulics - future retro :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Edit: oh, and the 12-speed chainset plays happily with the 11-speed rest? I’m looking to change my ancient 11-speed Ultegra on my indoor bike from 170 to 165mm cranks, and looking for compatible options.

Thanks! So on the cranks, you just want to match the chain to the chainrings you’re using. Aside from looking odd, you can use the 11s arms with 12s rings, you can also use the 12s arms with 11s rings. If you pair the 11s chain with 12s rings or vise versa, the shifts into the big ring aren’t as nice.

I’ve also got the battery bike covered haha, it’s a better performing bike in every aspect but the Emonda just has a different and more chill feel, I can ride that bike casually and I don’t care how fast I go where the Madone always wants to go faster and I just lack the self control not to rip on it most of the time

Thanks for the tips! I hadn’t thought of the arms separate to the rings before. I rarely shift chainring on the indoor bike (almost always in ERG mode), so that should be an ok compromise.

That’s another lovely looking bike - a nice collection. I just have the one, with 5 batteries’ worth of mental load, so the easy, casual option that you have is a great idea.

Threw on the black continentals last night, I def prefer the tan as they make the cheap bike look a bit more premium to me

How does that work, do you have an adjustable dropout plate?

I wanted to fit my track bike originally but even with adapters it did not fit quite right. I was in the market for a vintage carbon bike and I realized that these had slightly adjustable dropouts yes. If you zoom in you can see the two bolts near the QR skewer.

I love the adjustment function of those 27.2 RSL seatposts. The way they adjust is perfect. I’m not sure why more don’t work that same way.

I used to have one, but sold it with my old Checkpoint. I do still have a 31. RSL post, but for whatever reason, that one was designed with the typical 2-bolt head. :unamused_face:

I’m usually anti tan wall but I think in this case they make the rims seem deeper and looks better than the black walls. If it did have a silver brake surface I think the black would be better

Can you expand? The bike sounds like a great option for my next bike. How sporty is it? It’s been a few years since I road a Roadmachine, and they were pretty sporty for an endurance bike — something I very much like. How’s the X?

Also, I love that your bike isn’t black, white or gray. Orange kicks butt! :+1:

I haven’t ridden a Roadmachine without an X, so can’t answer directly. But the RMX frame geometry is identical to the RM, with different stem angle and bar width, so I think it will ride very similar. I did test ride a BMC URS and didn’t get along with it at all, much more mountain bikey. I did upgrade the alloy stock wheels to carbon ones to get it a bit more sporty (and probably closer to an RM :smiley: ).

My RMX model has “only” 33 mm tyre clearance which was more than the RM at the time. If I was buying today I would probably go for a straight RM, as the newer RM models have 34-40 mm clearance on them. Or whichever model is available in orange :wink:

My dream has always been to tastefully pimp my ride, rather than buy the best…

2013 Btwin Triban 3, bought new for £300.

Remained unchanged and all original until 2022 when I changed the bars, saddle and wheels…

Last year I stumbled across some “period” Btwin carbon forks, for £20, I had to do it…

And now…the Pièce de résistance, a friend decided to break a Pinarello, again of the correct period…
