@FatherDamo2, @N8lewis, not that I have any experience with Discord but @mcneese.chad setup a channel for us to use.

I represented yesterday at one of the Crit City races. I’m not entirely happy with the result, but five of us finished within hundredths of a second between us so it was very, very close.
I started my sprint just a little too late. Otherwise, maybe a podium? Lesson learned for next time.

Yeah I don’t have much of a sprint, but I was impressed he was able to bring me back, especially since he went solo for a lap with 4 to go. I figured of anybody in the lead group he was most likely out of contention after that. Really good race though, and I was super-happy about what I did to animate it.
I’m a terrible sprinter as I mostly do triathlons, so I know in a bunch sprint I’m just trying not to be last within the group. So with 1.5 laps to go on Crit City with around 8 in the lead group, I attacked going up the hill with the ghost powerup. Threw down up to around 700W to get a couple seconds clear and when I became visible, the lead group began chasing me which ended up shattering the whole thing. I tried to stay away and basically went into VO2 max territory, and back at the hill your friend and one other guy caught back up with me, though the other guy was spent and dropped off pretty quickly.
Then when it came down to the sprint I gave it my all, but per usual, I was last in my group during the sprint. Just happy it was a group of 2 ![]()
Anyways, the ghost powerup seems like a great way to destroy the peloton with a couple km to go. Might be my go-to strategy from here on out.
Nice job to @rosko001 (Ross Taylor) for finishing fourth in 3R Volcano Circuit Flat Race, 1 second off of the third placed finisher in a field of 18 Cat B riders!
Kevin West, well done in the 3R LaGuardia Loop Flat Race. Fourth in Cat B, less than 0.5 sec from the podium!
And Michael Tate, taking silver in Cat B for the ZHQ Beta Crit City Race. Way to represent!!
Watch out for that other ‘ghost power up’ in game… those that interrupt their internet connection, sprint clear then reconnect!
Thankfully not many do it…
Last time I raced Crit City, think it has been the only time, I was sick afterwards…have avoided it since, bad memories…
Nice racing, well done. ![]()
Thanks. Came 2nd last week, but 1 minute faster this week (a much stronger field this week). These shorter races are a real hammerfest from start to finish and highlight my shortcomings at racing strategically and economically. I had nothing left in the last 1km and just hung on. Delighted with my improvements - I’d much rather finish further down the field but improve my overall time, than podium in a 'weaker performance.
Going to implement the 3 week VO2 plan that is discussed in the forum from Monday and work on my ability to suffer for a little bit longer.

The races are good fun and one heck of a workout from what I hear. Going to try one as soon as I finish the last 11 routes I need to complete.
Going to knock out 2 of the 3 longest rides next week. The other routes are mid range distance wise but no biggie.
My N=1
Don’t let the starts put you off trying to stay with the front group… Races are really good fun, be prepared/warmed up for the start for 2-3 minutes at approx 130% ftp. It will settle down to around your ftp for recovery and if you are lucky less… then you have choices, if pace is too hard you can always shoot of the back and join a following group! Enjoy and report back… ![]()
@FatherDamo2, I saw one of your others posts on the What Workout Did You Do Today thread and it looks like you dual recorded your crit race on TR. How did you do it while letting Zwift control power? Free ride in TR (I’ve never done this so I don’t exactly know how it works) and still select trainer as Controllable in Zwift?
On the rare occassion I ride a Zwift event without doing a TR workout in parallel, I manually upload the FIT file into TR. Any benefit of dual recording?
If you’re on Strava, you can push your Zwift ride there and then auto sync it to TR. that’s what I do. When I run them in parallel, I can either delete the TR ride from Strava, or just delete the Zwift ride before it uploads on the final screen. You still retain the XP, etc. Zwift races auto populate on my TR calendar.
99% of the time I have TR control my smart trainer, whether that being on an ERG session or Resistance setting. My power is transmitted via Ant+ from my Quarq and is picked up by both TR and Zwift.
For racing I use resistance mode on TR with the free ride option. Judge how long the warm up and race is and set a rough time. The reason I do this is because I use a MTB and the gearing just doesn’t let me go fast enough if I was to use Zwift course feedback. I max out at 26mph on the flats with a 32t x 10-42. Thus I use resistance mode and its normal a range between 35% to 48%. Giving me roughly 14 virtual gears.
Hope that helps explain things.
