Shame on me for not reading the full thread, it was surprisingly manageable! Damn, no chance on my end to make 2x30 @ 94% “surprisingly manageable”
But maybe it is psychological and I talk myself out of it…
Depends on whether your FTP is set low, bang on, or high. If the 94% is actually 88% ….
In other news:
Sweetspot
5.8 (TrainNow) 2 × 20 @ 90% 1hr
7.8 Wk 1 5 × 15 @ 90% 2hr
10.0 Wk 2 3 × 30 @ 90% 2hr
10.6 Wk 3 3 × 30 @ 94% 2hr
It’‘s also progressing my Threshold WL from 6.1 to 7.0 by giving me three different flavours of 5 × 12 over/unders.

Ive been doing 1.5hr Sweetspot workouts and have 2x30’s at 94% of ftp scheduled for Monday at an 8.6 progression ![]()
I was a bit worried I wouldn’t be able to handle the workouts but all has been good up to now.. hard but manageable.
I’ve been doing 2hr over under workouts as well and my next one is a 6.1 progression.
Seems Ai thinks we’re more capable than we think.
I did complete 12 weeks off base beforehand then got ill so just did some outdoor rides over Christmas then started structure again with 3 weeks of base.
Definitely something going on under the hood as it has never ramped me up like this before.
Trust the process I guess ![]()
I got another surprising adaptation after a totally unstructured ride yesterday. The ride was ~5.5 hours, mostly hammer fest junk miles on my Saturday team ride with ~2 hours solo z2 riding to and from the ride. After the ride, I immediately had a pending adaptation for my upcoming Tuesday sweet spot workout (8.8 to 9.6). So, while TR didn’t visibly update my progression levels as a result of that unstructured ride, it basically did the same thing by significantly increasing the level of my next workout. Maybe this is some flavor of workout levels v2 (ie - recognizing unstructured work) that many of us have been waiting for?
So, compared to how TR used to work (me having to poke the system into harder workouts), the system is now aggressively pushing. I think that’s a move in the right direction, just not sure it aligns well with my “hybrid” usage of TR. I’m a high volume guy and normally start the season by aggressively ramping training stress through hours and easy Kj’s (not intensity). I don’t typically start pushing significant intensity until I feel the base is well established. I’ll probably keep rolling with the harder workouts as long as I feel good, but I think it might be too much too quick with my hybrid approach. This first week of the season was a 900+ TSS (between the 2 TR interval workouts and my added Z2 work). That normally isn’t a problem for me when I’m easing into the intensity, but last week I had a “hard” and a “very hard” interval session on top of all the volume. I applied for the beta to see if the new endurance functionality might allow me to let TR manage all my training, right now I’m not sure how much TR is looking at the entire picture when it’s suggesting these interval workouts.
