I was thinking of doing a full race sim later this spring. Usually the smaller lakes around here allow for open water swimming in mid to late April. It is cold but bearable for 30 minutes. I would then ride outside for 90k, have some cake and coffee and do an easy brick half marathon. Not particularly interested in doing anything flat out, but rather a self supported HIM for the fun of it.
That being said, if someone organized a Sunday meetup for a 90k ride on that other platform, I’m game. And if anyone else is interested in the idea of doing a self supported tri in late April that would be cool. We could agree on a a day and go for it. It might be fun to make it a recreational race sim that allows for discording/ instagraming along the way to keep each other company, especially when we assume that by then social riding and running is still out of the question,
Just want to vent, I have been super frustrated without being able to run. Still just too icy to be running outside, and once it warms up I am sure my local paths will be full of people. With having Asthma I am being a bit extra cautious and staying away from people, which means possibly even more waiting till the trails are runnable. UGHHH… lets just hope IMMT doesn’t get cancelled
sorry,

Any suggestions on workouts that would help the 1-2hr long runs, but in addition to the long bike rides already scheduled.
Could you incorporate stuff like walking lunges and step-ups? Have you got stairs that you can do reps on? A friend with a treadmill gathering dust in the basement that you can requisition?
South Africa in full lock down for 21 days from midnight tonight. Stay home. No running. No walking the dog. Nothing.
Only essential services may operate (gas stations, supermarkets, pharmacies, etc). Only time you’re allowed off your property is to go buy food, meds or seek medical attention.
Military out in full force on the streets assisting the police service.
Not a single indoor trainer available for sale anywhere in the country. And treadmills are starting to become hard to find too. It’s gonna be an interesting 3 weeks.
Time on your feet is probably the next best thing. If you can’t run, try walking or hiking for longer durations. Not gonna help much with metabolic adaptations but might benefit muscles and joints.
Well, I bit the bullet and ordered a Kickr. I enjoy my Kurt Kinetic plenty, but I just can’t mentally deal with driving to a carpark or working out outside without a fan in the rain every single night. Oh well.
Currently doing Ironman Copenhagen in August but am not holding out a massive amount of hope that it will go ahead. Going to carry on training for the run/bike as much as possible but all pools/lakes in the UK are closed for the foreseeable future.
I’ve ordered some elastic bands (below) to try and maintain some swimming fitness - does anyone have any experience with these or any key exercises to do?
I’m still hopeful that Copenhagen will go ahead. I might drown in the swim leg from lack of practice but I’ll die knowing I’d have nailed the rest of the course
There’s a guy on YouTube called James Grage Undersun fitness that goes over strength training using resistance bands. If you use the principles for anchoring the bands and variable resistance it’ll give you what you need
I got lucky here… i realised over autumn that i had such a profound dislike of training with / around other human beings (other than my family, im normally socially distant anyway) that i cancelled my gym membership, subscribed to TR and started a pain cave build in my garage including full scale direct drive trainer, bodyweight and resistance band setup. I was just in the process of saving up for a treadmill when this happened. Were still allowed to run outside once a day as long as we are alone so its just been me and the dog on runs
Did a 10km testrun today, surprised by the outcome with a new PB! 4 minutes improvement in about 1 year of triathlon training, lets hope I can improve with 4 minutes every year
New PB 50:04!
