I need to check the fit for sure. Waiting for the shop to start taking people for fitting. I’ll call today and check the status
Well, I was going to take it a bit easier yesterday, as my legs were shredded … that didn’t happen
I ended up doing weights at lunch time,
Then after work, I did Virtual IM 5150 Cairns at race pace (or as close as I could manage) followed by a 30min MAF Brick Run.
Just a 50min MAF run today - so at least I’ll get a bit of recovery today

Thank you for that. When would you go and add another structured session in. At the moment I am one capped on not wanting to over do it too quickly. I am increasing each ride slowly as you say. would you go up by an hour each week ? is that okay then at lower intensity then when could I change that extra hour for another structured session on the trainer ? eventually trying to go from low volume to mid volume
I think a lot of that would depend on you and your history. Do you have a running/swimming background where you have put in a fair amount of volume per week? If so you could probably throw in an easier workout like Pettit and see how you feel after a couple weeks and go from there. If you don’t have much of an endurance background, I would suggest taking it slower and doing exactly what @Joelrivera mentioned by extending your cooldown. The big benefit of that too is that instead of having to schedule another session, get your bike ready, get the app ready, get dressed, shower, etc. you can pretty easily get that extra saddle time without any of the overhead associated with another workout, and you can take things more gradually which would be best for you in the long run.
Sounds like IM Couer d’Alene sold out for 2021 after registration opened this week. Not too surprising since I imagine a lot of slots were already taken up by people being deferred from other cancelled races this year. Still, people still seem to be gung-ho about giving IM money after all the calls for refunds and “outrage” after all the cancellations. I’m still debating whether I should do the same or not if/when registration opens for IM Canada next year–not an easy decision.
How is ssb lv feeling? Are you sleeping well? Eating easy or wolfing down platefuls?
Some people can move from one to the other, some add pettit, some add an outdoor ride.
First I would check your progress, if you are seeing reasonable gains you maybe best served sticking with LV plans. Its about the minimum stimulus you need, not the maximum fatigue you can sustain.
That’s a very good point you are making regarding aero improvements vs. power. I don’t know my actual numbers apart from BBS race analysis, but those do not make particular sense to me. According to BBS my CDA has been getting worse with every race and every effort and gear upgrade I made to improve. Apparently I was more slippery in a cheap two piece with high armpads and narrow 40mm wheels than I am with new 90/90 wheels and a high end one piece suit. Aerodynamics are terrible!
Are you focusing only on position or are you experimenting with gear and setup as well? Do you do Chung testing or use BBS to estimate the difference between positions and setups?
Those are great gains! was that all on low volume plans?
It’s unbelievable. And the best is those will the same people that will cry and moan when the race gets cancelled/postponed.
My home 70.3 takes place end of January. Definitely wont be doing it solo, but considering doing the bike leg in a team with mates. Plan is sit and watch how things unfold and then if favourable, enter at the very last minute.
Good luck for tomorrow and dont forget to give us a write up!
Good luck!. Go strong and have fun!
Very nice race! Killer swim and run. I’m not familiar with European races. But I think finding a hillier bike course is the right way to go.
Did you stay for the awards ceremony? Sometimes the slot rolls down. I don’t even know where the WC is next year.
I really hope you skip the virtual Boston. Sounds like you have a gluteus strain. Nothing good can come out of a marathon.
I was able to transfer my IMC to IMCDA just in time before the race sold out. It was even harder to get hotel reservations!
Thanks man. There was no ceremony for the slot awards, they notified qualifier via email. And so far no mail has rolled down to me unfortunately.
WC 21 is supposed to happen in St George, which would have been nice. Always wanted to travel that area anyway but alas it’s not in the cards this year.
Well… Thanks for the advice. Sadly too late now. I just got home from finishing. Officially my slowest marathon… 3:58:23.
This is clock time. I walked and run for 22 miles (10 min run, 1 min walk). I glad I’m done tho.
The glute was not in pain, but I could definitely feel it early on. After the first 10 miles there were pain spot all over my body I forgot about the glute!
Make sure to recover really well! If i were you, I would just swim for a week and add recovery effort bike after that for a week. You’re playing with fire.
Yes…my plan was take it easy the whole week…and not run… Just swim and recover bikes
Id take that any day! Well done, finishing a marathon is epic -
Sometimes you just have to do it, and looks like you made the smart decision for run/walk
Agree with @Alen, now get off those feet!
