Check out the Ryden website as I think some of their tools have a 3d printer download file.
I 3D printed a BRP with a 80mm inner width. Got some perhaps surprising results using it. The new bike/saddle is around 14mm rearward compared to my normal road bike setup, meaning 14mm further behind the BB and 14mm longer reach. Which was surprising because I felt like the saddle may have been too forward, but based on this, it needs to go more forward. Iām not sure what to believe. I feel like this would put my knees further out in front of the pedals.
Interesting. Was there any difference in height too?
Maybe a mm shorter on the new bike. I decided to push it forward a tad, about 5mm, then raised it to match. And it may be a placebo but it did feel a lot more solid. I felt more planted in the saddle and perhaps not as stretched out. But again, it could be that I was expecting a different feel and unconsciously fitting that perception.
So Iām having some knee pain in the back of the kneed (so on the backside) and it feels like it is caused by my pretty tight calve muscles, I had this on the left leg on and of but it starts on the right leg too, Iām not sure if i can do something with my fit that would improve the situation. MyVelofit has me everywhere in the range and overal the fit feels ok to me when riding. Following are some pictures taken on the trainer in Hoods, drops and aero hoods. Here is also a link to the Video I took.
I guess the thing to do is make small (3mm at most) changes and compare the position to the previous position. Repeat until you get where you want to be.
How long ago did this start and has it coincided with any changes that youāve made?
Started on the left leg last spring it was always on off and had it before from time to time (but before last year I didnāt do that much volume consistently, around 6-8h a week with some higher volume weeks when time alows.) The right leg started this winter a bit⦠I got a bit lower on the front, this bike is new and a bit lower then my Gravel bike. But the issue started on the Gravel bike and there I went down 1cm with the handlebar last fall.
Pain in the back of the knee can be associated with too high a saddle. Possibly lowering the bar has made matters worse.
Try dropping the saddle 3mm at a time and noting the difference.
Does your foot feel light or disconnected from the pedal at full extension too?
Hi chaps,
What could be the reason for the knee/tibia to flick inwards/internally rotate at the bottom of the pedalstroke? I have been seeing an acupuncturist who believes it is tight IT and hip complex.
Is there anything I can do RE bikefit? I have significant pain around the medial edge of the patella, bursitis type problem which only occurs on the bike and subsequently after riding.
Hm The Saddle doesnāt feel High really and the foot is doesnāt feel light, I feel pretty in control, but I may try to drop the saddle a bit more and see how it feels, I tried it a bit lower, but felt I became really quad dominant.
I had my first Retul bike fit they other day. I built my first gravel bike this year and Iāve been having some knee pain on the inside of both knee caps. Iāve only ridden MTB my whole life and managed to self fit them without issue. Anyway, I was using the 25 degree knee bend method to get my saddle height and apparently my saddle was 5cm too low! I guess using a giant angle tool combined with it being measured while static is an inexact science. Who woulda thought? So now my bike feels so weird I feel like a baby deer learning to walk.
How big a saddle drop did it take to become quad-dominant? small 3mm changes are the way to go.
Could also try raising the bar height if possible again 3-5 mm depending on spacers.
Possibly an unsupported varus tilt requiring wedges or lack of enough arch support.
Logistical question. Was watching this video, in which Dylan goes over a few studies and ends up with the conclusion that a lower than optimal saddle is better than a higher than optimal saddle. Ok cool. But then has a study showing that a 25 degree knee angle is better than a 35 degree knee angle. I must be thinking about this the wrong way or measuring wrong, but wouldnāt the 25 degree angle have a higher saddle? Like, mine is 38 degrees based on the picture I posted above. To get down to 25, Iād have to raise my saddle a lot. Or am I thinking about this wrong?
Mine would be 36 degrees based on these measurements right? Lowering the saddle would get more bend in the knee and that number would increase, which seems to go against his advice. Iām just so lost.
I canāt remember if it was this thread or the TT thread where @PattyP talked about streaming his trainer sessions to analyze his fit on the screen in front of him.
On the this weeks Geek Warning podcast, Ronan said he sets up a theee way Google Hangout meeting and then uses his other devices to record his side and forward positions to analyze his fit.
Pretty damn smart, TBHā¦maybe PattyP needs to protect his ideas. ![]()
Looks like your saddle is high or maybe too far back or both. Youāre reaching or kind of toe tapping at the pedals in the video a bit higher up. You posted a video back in like January on a different bike and you pedal stroke looked so much better and natural in that vid.
Yes this thread. Sounds like a complicated
I use the free software https://obsproject.com/
Iam happy to help everybody in this thread!
The funny part is that the saddle is higher on the black Specialized than on the white bike. Itās only a few mm different though. I did move the saddle forward on the white bike and itās feeling better initially. Iāll get another video of it.
With regards to lowering my saddle, Iāve considered it. Whatās throwing me off and really I think I just need somebody to explain it better maybe is that my knee angle is 36 right now, which Iāve read is too high. But lowering the saddle would increase that. So unless Iām thinking about it incorrectly (very possible), wouldnāt lowering my saddle be moving in the wrong direction based on the numbers?
Is your toe / foot angle the same? That can play a role in knee angle sometimes. (I havenāt looked at the video in detail)
