The 2021 Giro d’Italia Thread

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!

I was wondering if it machismo that made Moscon go after Nibali like ‘I’m not going to let the old geezer get away’.

On the other hand, it was great to see a little bit of the old Nibali magic.

Do tell !. I wasn’t aware of Moscon’s reputation as “not nice”. Lol

This was the big one but there’s definitely more.

Good article here:

“Not nice” is putting it mildly.

I only watched the last 10 minutes. Off course I was rooting for Gaviria/Molano to do their thing, but Gaviria doesn’t have the legs to win a stage it seems, nice win by Nizzolo.

Tomorrow will be :fire: :fire: :fire:

It appears that he also didn’t have a saddle

That snooze fest was so worth being boring to see Nizzolo take a stage finally. I was just screaming “Is he going to do it? Is he going to do itttt???” at the TV for that final 30 seconds. Loved that.

Yikes! That could have been painful!

45 Minutes of Pain

The last 3 KM are an absolute nightmare. After 200km of racing…these guys are mutants.

These are the odds

If Martinez wasn’t in a support role he’ll be favored too.

Does anyone have the rough stage timings today? Would like to time my 90 minute workout to watch the Zoncolan at the same time!

Great win yesterday for Nizzolo but that was such a dull stage. I do wish the organisers would think more creatively about ways to avoid this type of stage. If cycling ever wants to increase its audience, this is the thing that puts people off (and I like watching test cricket!)

ETA: Just found the timings. Mid-point estimate is starting the climb at around 16:15 local time. Perfect!

Today we find out if Bernal stamps his authority on the race and essentially puts it out of reach or if we’ll have a bike race next week. The Zoncolan is a MF’er!!

Doing a long gravel ride today so will be tuning in this afternoon as I recover on the couch.

I predict he’ll probably win it but not by enough to make next week irrelevant. Carthy is my bet for a good one today though.

It´s the Giro. The race won´t finish until the last guy crosses the line in Milano next Sunday.

Out of interest, where did you find them? I couldn’t see them on the official website or any cycling news sites…

Sorry, that would have helped anyone else!

Here you go:

Click on ‘itinerary timetable’ and you get the following graphic:

thanks - so I was looking in the right place, but the responsive design on the Giro website is rubbish … so on my iPad that icon just got dropped…

Did anyone else see that there’s an 18-year-old racing? His name is Andrii Ponomar, and he’s the youngest Giro starter since 1929. Racing for Androni.

“I started pedaling when I was 11 years old. I fell in love with cycling watching the exploits of Yaroslav Popovych. Last year I came to Italy to race in the Junior category. I immediately felt comfortable here because there is the right climate, there are many ways to train and work peacefully to find the right condition. Now I am here with Androni and I feel very lucky. It’s a great group and all my colleagues are nice,” Ponomar says.

Incredible.
