Thank you for that explanation. Really helpful.
Thanks for the background. I have some reading to do.
I’m mathematically familiar with Mader’s model (1986 and 2003) and have implemented a version in Excel and Python and used it quite a bit for a while. But I stopped using it since VLaMax as defined is very difficult to measure (I don’t have a power meter with sub-hz measurement) and as you’ve mentioned, you can have an increase in power at various intensities without a change in VO2max (or VLaMax).
You should write a book. Dozens of us would read it

I’ve had a bunch of writing stuff in the works including a book outline, but am currently rewriting, deleting, or adding entire sections annually, if not monthly. And knowing how literally certain other cycling books are taken despite the efforts of some authors to correct misconceptions, at least right now I feel like I could do more harm than good. Besides, I’m sure one person will buy it then all other acquisitions will be an emailed pdf for free.99.
Create a Substack Publication. Tons of people will subscribe and you’ll refine your stuff while getting another income stream.
id pay for that
It’d have to be quite the income stream to be worth the time it takes to put something together that I feel is worth being paid for.
$10/month x 200ppl = $24k year.
You’ll get more efficient the more you write. Better format for dry topics than the podcast.
Venmo’d $20. I’d rather listen and take my own notes. Thanks for all you do. ![]()
@empiricalcycling dont use that $20 to buy another domain name
