Team Zwatt Power Meter Users - your experience so far

Good morning sorry to insist on this topic but how are they able to “lock” it?
Trying to figure this one out…

Would it not keep sending data to a Garmin device or similar regardless? Is this not something it will always happen and they can’t “lock”.
Thanks.

Could they disable it when/if you connect it to their app in your phone. The best way to get a difinative answer to your question would be to email Zwatt themselves.

Their system works this way:

  • Power meter is set to disable itself every 30 days (only cadence is broadcasted)
  • By paying 1 month of membership you push these 30 days back
  • After 2 years it stops doing that.

But a few months ago they offered a small discount to all who paid their remaining fee and got rid of subscription model. Those who paid got their power meters unlocked.

My take: Zhimanox is working fine for me, but I sent it to Denmark twice to fix cracked cover. In the first case it caused signal dropouts. I had no other issues.

I suggest sending an email to hello@teamzwatt.com to clarify how much should you pay to unlock if fully. It might be less than original fee. The original owner might not understand correctly how their subscription system works. Once you get the answer from Team ZWATT you could see the total price.

There is an issue with very limited support available as Zhimanox is discontinued.

Thanks for the clarification.

At the end i didnt win the item on ebay but i emailed and got a response from team zwatt. They were looking for 55eur to unlock the power meter for good.

Sorry i know this is not a forum to buy/sell stuff but you no longer use it and is sitting in your house with no use i could be willing to buy it ogf you. Please let me know if you are interested in selling it. Cheers

I got the Zimanox from the kickstarter campaign in Nov '17. It was more than half a year off the initially proposed date when I initially pledged. It’s kickstarter so I knew that could happen. Once received the Zimanox was wildly off. Outdoors it was reading 100-200W too high and indoors about 50-70W too low. Tried to calibrate it several times with their software but that didn’t help.

They offered me to send it back to Denmark for recalibration. Tried to do that but their return ticket quota was exceeded for almost 2 weeks. Meanwhile, I got a good deal on a Stages power meter, so I didn’t bother further with the Zimanox.

Seeing how it all panned out I’m glad I cut my losses at 225€ and didn’t pay them any monthly fee on top. It seems to me that Team Zwatt set this kickstarter campaign up to weasel out of supporting their faulty units. It’s obvious they have little to no QA and make their kickstarter supporters pay extra for that fact. There are just too many stories about inaccurate units. Discontinuing it after less than 2 years and ceasing all support is terrible customer service.

I would refrain from buying anything from that company in the future.
