Great to hear someone saying they don’t like long rides, but enjoys shorter TT etc. My body can handle long rides but not my mind, I get bored. We know that training involves progressive OVER Load, and there is also OVER Distance, and the rule of thumb for that maximum is twice the event distance, but clearly, you’re not going to train for twice the distance for long rides, but it can help with TT, but you don’t need to do more than that. If 75miles is your max, then have fun doing 35miles TT or less.
Took my road bike and mountain bike out for 3 rides last week.
Didn’t feel my knee at all on the bike (took it easy and only an hour long ride). I can still feel it off the bike though.
I did however resort back to my old shoes and pedals (this knee pain came on after a week of swapping to Look keo blades from Dura ace and sworks 7 from 6).
Now I have always been a firm believer in that small changes in bike fit shouldn’t cause injury otherwise your body is fragile and the fix is making your body more robust but maybe I was already out of range and the shoes/pedal change + turbo pushed me over the edge.
I specifically seem to think it is Q factor related. The wider my feet the happier my medial knee seems to be (which is opposite of the usual generic advice given).
Felt pretty good on the bike and I think a lot of my base fitness is there, going to my old ftp and above felt like hard work though.
