Still failing workouts!

Update to show results and provide closure for the thread:

  1. First and foremost, massive thanks to everyone for good advice that got me straightened out.

  2. I’ve focused on getting good rest and recovery above all. Second priority the bike, third my weight-training sessions, and fourth would have been running… but in reality doing all three would have been too much TSS, so I’ve barely run at all. I’ve allowed myself to drop TSS, or skip scheduled workouts, if I didn’t “feel like” doing the work that day.

  3. On the bike, I focused on pure endurance work as y’all recommended.

Great results: I feel MUCH better! The unending fatigue is gone, and the day is more fun. I’m seeing real improvements in strength training and just ramp-tested at 199W last week (last test 185W, prior best 195W). Started a modified SSB2LV last week and completed Ebbets at my new FTP with RPE 10 but zero rest breaks and didn’t feel destroyed afterward.

I said “modified” SSB2… priorities don’t change: recovery, bike, strength, run/swim. I’ll do the two one-hour workouts during the week, with an endurance ride outside over the weekend. I’ll keep my two one-hour strength sessions, and gradually build in a little jogging/swimming. Most importantly, I’ll adjust TSS on the fly to ensure that I continue feeling good. I finally feel like I’m managing to build some progression into my training, and that I am NOT overtraining.

I feel fantastic, and I am Getting Faster. Thanks to all of you for the great advice!
